Y E S. Thank you, OP.

Well, screw the haters. Maybe some of us like movies that require some thought to understand. I was still a little lost on some of the details by the end and I enjoyed the movie anyway. I'm 100% with you, OP. This movie was great.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-08 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
you sound insane.

[identity profile] fauxkaren.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah... this was just not the movie for me. I found it dull.

But then I loved The Iron Lady which everyone else hated.

So apparently, I have terrible taste in movies.

Ah well.

I liked The Iron Lady as well. I thought it was good and for once I was truly excited about an Oscar win. :)

[identity profile] marshwiggledyke.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
I loved this movie but you still sound like a jerk.

[identity profile] hoggle2807.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
You do realize that your 1st and 2nd paragraphs are kind of incompatible, right? "It's okay if you don't like it...unless you don't like it for these reasons!"

And, I haven't seen it yet, but rest assured when I do, whether or not you liked and why will have no bearing on my opinion...as mine should have no bearing on yours.

Teal Deer: Calm down.

I don't give a shit about this movie, but kudos for making the people you bash sound infinitely reasonable when compared to yourself.

I thought that the new adaptation was excellent, but I'd say that it's probably one of those films where it's really best to have read the book or watched the old BBC miniseries beforehand. The limited timeframe meant that some pretty major plot points had a certain blink and you'll miss 'em quality.

lol, since it's tumblr there is probably a whole section of people who think they're the deepest, most intellectual persons on earth for liking and understanding that movie, and the ones who don't are too dumb and shallow to live.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-08 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
ia, tbh. one thing that never fails to turn me into a giant green rage monster is when people dismiss a film/book/show because they don't get it. as in "the plot was too complicated to follow therefore it sucks". no, you're just an idiot.

i nearly wept with joy after watching 'ttss' because it was finally a film that didn't pander to the audience and explain things. it was engaging, it was a CHALLENGE, and i appreciate that.

*HUGS*

This movie was an absolute joy.

[identity profile] barnabys-bane.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I really enjoyed this movie and plan on seeing it again some time in the future so I can pick up on things I missed, but I do think you're overreacting a bit.

It annoys the hell out of me when people dismiss something as objectively bad for the reason 'I didn't get it', and the people (well, let's face it, Americans) complaining about the accents in this movie piss me off to no end, but a great number of people (particularly those going to see a movie specifically for an actor/actress with no concern for every other element present in the film) are going to bash what they don't like and do so in a rather public manner. It happens.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-08 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
On the other side of the coin, I rather dislike it when I don't like a movie (or TV show or book or anything) and fans of it immediately start telling me that I "just didn't get it." No, it just wasn't too my taste. Or, you know, I thought it was crap.

Ngl, Gary Oldman not winning an Oscar for his performance in this made me want to flip over a table.

Academy Awards? You and me are done, professionally.

[identity profile] solo-by-choice.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, good to hear someone liked this movie! I just read the book and I really want to see the movie. Based on the book, yeah, not your typical spy movie but people really ought to know that given it's based on a book by John Le Carre. Duh it's going to be slow and sedate. Hopefully I'll have a chance to see it and enjoy it :D

[identity profile] justspaz.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
I watched this movie at 1 am after a long day (which included making a Shit Sherlock Fans Say video and eating at a restaurant called Moriarty's), and while I enjoyed it, one thing bothered me: I was able to figure out the mole. I am never able to figure out these things, despite the fact that I watch all sorts of crime and spy dramas. Whether I'm especially astute under those circumstances or not, it made things a bit less...something.

(This is coming from someone whose favorite movie is David Fincher's Zodiac, which is basically a major example of 'slow building without much action', so I don't have those complaints!)

Hopefully this involves my entrails staying in place. I'm coming off my second bad cold in a 3-week period so I'd just hate to have all my hard troubles kicking bugs go to waste.

I have such a love-hate relationship with this movie.

On one hand, half of the movie is extremely dull, and you have to pay attention to every single detail - which can be exhausting. It's one of those movies you kinda want to see again, but not right away. On the other hand, the actors are great, all of them did an amazing job; it's a great adaption; the cinematography was beautiful; and I feel like it's one of the few movies that portray the "spy world" realistically, if my history lessons are anything to go by. Plus I loved the subtle unfolding of the drama.

While I think you're overreacting, I do some serious side-eyeing whenever someone claims it's the worst movie ever and everyone hates it.(WHICH, btw, IS SO NOT TRUE. I shared my movie experience with 50+ year-old fans who loved it; I was the only 20-something gal in there.) Like seriously, fuck off, if you want some action go watch a Bond movie. Your immature asses are not worthy of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. /RANT

Personal taste is subjective, so something you really like, another person is bound to absolutely hate.

I am so glad I haven't seen this because it would've made me rage so hard. It's totally okay if somebody didn't like the movie, didn't get the movie, or both. I only barely got it and I want to watch it again to fill in the blanks. But it's just childish to say "I didn't get it therefore the movie sucks and people only like it for Cumberbatch!" That just sounds like an obnoxious child masking their own insecurity over not getting it. Also if I'm there for the sexy of any one actor, it is Colin Firth.

Oh, no. Someone on the internet needs some serious therapy. Really, how do people ever get the idea that death threats make their argument more valid?

I utterly loved it. (Also a huge fan of the books and LeCarré in general.) I can see why people didn't, though.

[identity profile] courageousyouth.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Personally, I really dug this movie. That said, I can understand why some people wouldn't.

[identity profile] arcadiaego.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure how you could get the characters mixed up when they were all played by such distinctive actors.
