Hey, don't knock the librarians. We kick ass too.

Oh god, now I'm picturing Cas as a reference librarian. He would be terrible, and it would be terribly awesome.

"Well, the answer to your question can best be expressed as a series of partial differential equations... ass butt."
"The reference collection is layered with Enochian magic. You cannot check those books out of the library."
"I gripped these books tight and raised them from perdition. I can throw them back in."

But yeah, soldier makes more sense.

Now I want Cas the inept yet badass librarian fic.

[identity profile] dark-branwen.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
As well you should, anon.

"I killed two of my brothers today. Imagine what I will do to you if you don't use your inside voice."

(Anonymous) 2012-03-08 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
I vote we title this I Don't Understand That Reference and that at some point Cas takes out a coven of witches using naught but the Dewey Decimal System. Because he's old school like that.

[identity profile] dark-branwen.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Omg that's an amazing title.

I find witches are more susceptible to Library of Congress Classification though.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-08 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Unfortunately, I used up all of my (limited) creativity there and now I can't come up with any other good puns to suggest for titles for the non-existent sequel to this non-existent fic. This saddens me greatly.

You make a good point. Dewey Decimal is probably a bit more angry spirit territory. I'm still trying to decide if he'd go for the Boolean logic or overdue fines when taking on vampires, though.

If no one else does, I may have to write this. Stay tuned...

/choking on my ginger ale

[identity profile] philstar22.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Now I'm thinking of that Librarian tv movie series staring Noah Wyle. I'd totally read Cas in that role.

[identity profile] kindlycoyote.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Mary Kessler would agree. (Erm, sorry, Grimm reference. As someone who works in a library, I had a geek fit of glee when the badass monster hunter turned out to be a librarian. That one line made me grin when I worked at my library that week.)

[identity profile] loracarol.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Great, now I'm seeing him in some random "The Mummy" crossover, where's he's the cranky library who manages to randomly knock everything over, and read books in Enochian, and accidentally bring someone bad to life and IDK, I'd read it.

...And I haven't watched the show...

(Anonymous) 2012-03-08 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
You totally should. It's fabulous... most of the time.

[identity profile] loracarol.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
I tried to watch it, but I had to turn in the DVD's before I could finish season 1, and I just haven't tried again... Maybe someday again, though. ♥

[identity profile] dark-branwen.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Just swingin' by to say: love the icon.

[identity profile] loracarol.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I got both it and this one from chachu-icons (http://chacu-icons.livejournal.com/)~ ♥

OP would never knock librarians, as OP is in the sister profession of museum work.

OP would also read a librarian AU written by an actual *librarian* who knows enough to make it interesting and relevant; OP has just skimmed the summaries of too many fics written by people who base their characterization off of TV stereotypes.

[identity profile] dark-branwen.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
Oh well yaaaaaay. :D

(I do find it kind of masochistically hilarious to read stories about librarians by people who obviously don't know what librarians/curators/etc. do. As I'm sure everyone does with their chosen profession.)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-08 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
OP also knows how damn difficult it is to get a job as a librarian, so fallen-angel-cas-the-accidental-librarian just doesn't cut it. Unless it's awesomely written, of course, but it has to avoid the whole "goes to the library on the magical day they need a new librarian, and lo, he gets the job!" awfulness.

[identity profile] not-quite-anon.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
And you thought Conan the Librarian was bad.

The grand story, and we ripped up the ending, and the rules, and destiny; leaving nothing but freedom, and choice...and $79.48 in replacement fees.
