The Vampire Diaries.

Ignore the really sometimes-skeevy marketing the CW does (which initially put me off, because I don't find oiled up people all that attractive) and make it through the inevitably lame pilot episode, and seriously the show is more addictive than crack.

I tried the pilot episode ages ago, and was so put off I just laughed and dropped the series. I keep hearing that the pilot was terrible but the actual show is good, however none of the spoilers I've heard about the show make me want to watch it. Elena being the doppleganger of the vampire brothers' maker bothered me...I felt like I'd seen a similar plot on Inuyasha, and it struck me as a way to make Elena "special" and worthy of fixation/attention from the vampire boys, without actually having to do anything or be anything personally. Kind of like Bella just smelling really, really nice in Twilight, or Sookie just smelling really, really nice in True Blood...though at least Sookie was also telepathic. Plus it doesn't help that I feel like a lot of this is going to be about how hotttt the boys are, and I find the American standard of male beauty (butch and buff with thick necks and broad jaws) to be entirely unattractive. If there's gonna be some hot girls (preferably as vampires) or just like, other things to like the show and characters for other than OMG attractive people~ then that'd help. (And I know Elena's doppleganger lady is a vampire, would still like to have other ladies as vampires or other supernaturals. Who don't die.)

Also, most people I know like very different things in their vampire stories than me. I like my vampires angsty, self-loathing, miserable, and for bonus points, starving. The more attention is paid to their pain, the happier I am. I am Bill Compton's only fan. I am also probably the only fan of Edward Cullen who didn't think he was ~dreamy~, but loved the heck out of reading his inner monologue of self-loathing, violent fantasies, and disgust at same in Midnight Sun (the only Twilight thing I have read). So usually things that make most of fandom happy, like pre-amnesia Eric Northman, bein' all, vampire parties every night, fuck yeah I love being a vampire--not my thing. I know. I'm a social pariah.

tl;dr: is there something for me in this show? Some spoilers okay to entice, would rather not have like the entire plot laid out tho.

Man, you would love about every single male vampire on the show if self-loathing is your thing. Stefan probably takes the top spot. Actually, you know what, that would be Finn. Finn doesn't even deny that he's an awful, horrible monster. Most of his screen time is spent trying to find ways to end his miserable existence because he just hates himself that much.

Do you like vampires who are basically just little fluffy puppies with daddy issues and like to draw ponies in their spare time? Of not, avoid season three. Or at least stop watching after 3x06.
