This is why you have fandom.

Though yeah, since most of those shows were/are on FOX, I can't see why not. But, oh well.

[identity profile] philstar22.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
As awesome as the X-files is, no. Bones is a completely Supernatural-free fandom, and I like it that way. I don't want references to other fandoms that do have supernatural elements. That is what fanfic is for.

[identity profile] luxshine.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
This. Bones is awesome as it is.

Also, drive-by icon love.

[identity profile] philstar22.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Your icon is pretty awesome too.

[identity profile] loracarol.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Well, sort of.

I mean, there was the episode where Booth was trapped on that ship, and he was helped by the ghost(?), and Bones even saw him, only it turned out to be a delusion that Booth saw thanks to his brain tumor that Bones saw too. Somehow.

But other than that... Yeah, I kind of agree. ^^;

[identity profile] otakugal15.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
That whole brain tumor arc was just weird as hell. 4th season is my least favorite due to that. Ugh.

Wait, that was an episode? Were there any X-Files references? Because that totally sounds like the episode Triangle...

I am so confused. What is this secret saying?

[identity profile] emobus.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Me too.. I got excited because I love X-Files secrets but this one makes no sense to me

i don't watch/care for bones, but duchovny directed an episode of that, right?

[identity profile] scornedsaint.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
I feel like Fringe made an X-File reference early in season 2 (something like "Your department used to have an 'x' designation") but I don't remember anyone making a big deal out of it so maybe I hallucinated it?

[identity profile] threnody.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
You're not hallucinating. It was in the first season when they were basically telling Broyles to justify spending money on this shit, and the senator (or whoever) said that "the old X designation and your Fringe investigations are indulgences"

I believe it was the second season premiere. There was the scene [livejournal.com profile] threnody references above, and if I remember correctly there was also a scene with a character watching The X-Files on his or her tv.

But, why would they all reference each other? They take place in completely different worlds. And besides, it's just dumb. I don't want House to reference like, Grey's. I don't want Criminal Minds to reference Bones or Fringe. It would be weird and wouldn't seem at all natural in the context of the show.

[identity profile] xerxes92.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
If I'm getting this right, you wish there were more x-files references in shows with the FBI? 'cause supposedly (and I say supposedly because I've never seen x-files so I wouldn't know a reference if it punched me in the face) Fringe has tons of them.

I guess I would never expect them to be mentioned/willing to take on each other's histories by virtue of a mention - which they'd be doing - since I come from a fandom where getting permissions and jumping through legal hoops to make the smallest mention of things that are technically a part of the same world was occasionally a massive pain in the ass. It would be cool to be able to say they're all canonically connected, but smushing all those worlds together seems like it would be pretty damn confusing.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-08 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen much of Bones but isn't there a direct X-Files reference in one of the early episodes? Like Booth saying they're like Mulder and Scully and Bones replying with, "I don't know what that means." or something of the sort? Which would mean that Mulder and Scully are fictional characters in the Bones universe.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-08 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
I think OP was saying that they'd like like offhand references to agent Scully or Agent Mulder or Skinner or whomever else as agents in the same fbi. Least thats how i read it

I love X-Files and this secret is reminding me to check out Fringe. I hate Bones, TBH.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-08 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
You should check out Supernatural. They make X-Files references.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-08 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
OP here

actually just started watching that tonight :)

It does? yay! My sister recently got into Supernatural, and so she wants me to watch it with her this summer.

[identity profile] writerserenyty.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
Every time I see TXF in a secret I get really excited because it's like "break out the Mulder and Scully icon!"

[identity profile] lil-lost-kitten.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
But don't they already?

Bones is meant to be set in the 'real world' and hasn't really got any supernatural elements, therefore they merely reference the existence of the show in the first episode and don't indicate it really happened.

Fringe seems to take place in the same world as X-files though (the reference to the department formerly being known as 'X'), and also seems to share a 'verse with Twin Peaks (Walter getting his red'n'blue glasses from 'a colleague in Washington state' - referencing Dr. Jacoby). There may have even be more links tying Fringe to other shows that I've managed to miss, but as far as I know, Fringe is a legit crossover show.
