Yeah. Laughed my ass off for about 5 minutes when I saw it.

And it was actually considered some of the better fanart when it came out. Decent fanart was a lot harder to find in 2001 when that piece was drawn. At least from what I remember. Someone mentioned Irresistible Poison in another reply and I am sure this was drawn for that specifically.

this is from the dark ages of fanart times, that was some quality work at the time.

the fact that I even recognized t as HP fanart makes it better than some of the old shit I've seen on... certain archives.

By the throbbing haemorrhoids of Azathoth, that art just isn't right.

Are you using a Time-Turner? There hasn't been any decent wank in that fandom since 2004.

Is that when you left? 'Cause there's still plenty of wank. I no longer spend time in the fandom as I used to-- I've been away for, what, a year now?-- but there was plenty of wank when I was there. A lot of arguments over the whole top/bottom debate and certainly a lot of strife over the stuff OP mentioned.

Why, just a few months ago a pretty well-known fan threw a bitch fit for some reason or other (can't remember) and deleted two somewhat popular communities she co-moderated in a fit of anger. And recently a friend of mine was banned from the a LDWS community because she sent one of the mods a PM expressing her concerns that the challenge was rigged. Instead of trying to reassure her they just banned her. Didn't even send her a return message. There was also a pretty recent argument that broke out because a non-BNF wrote a bad-review about a BNF's fic on her review/rec/etc community. She received serious wank, from what I'm aware).

and thiiis sort of thing is why I will never, ever join a comm for any particular pairing in Harry Potter fandom. the fandom politics are just terrifying to me.

Unfortunately, this sort of behavior seems to be common in fandom in general when you're talking about BNF's.

Just judging from this description, you sound like you pretty much asked for the wank that found you.

You know what, you don't like this person's writing -- obviously a lot of other people do. And if you are going to go around insulting people for enjoying what they like... yeah, you aren't going to make a lot of friends. Sure you might be able to pull out criteria a, b, and c as to why this writer's fic fails, but this isn't English class full of dry absolutes. People are going to read fics that move them emotionally and that is the biggest YMMV area there is.

Rather than making a big fuss over the fact that people are loving a fic that you don't, make your own corner of fandom, fill it with your own rec lists, and love the hell out of it. You'll find fandom a much happier and more welcoming place.

So no criticism, ever? I enjoy getting constructive criticism, even when it hurts like a bitch, because it means that someone took the time to actually put some thought into my fic, and I appreciate it. This "Don't Like, Don't Read" mindset is complete idiocy. How are you supposed to improve if no one ever tells you what you're doing wrong?

And it sounds like the OP simply expressed distaste when asked, then faced a rather unnecessary amount of ridiculousness from over-invested fans.

Cheryl is an extremely good writer, at least these days, by anyone's standards. If the OP is talking about her, she's clueless and it's just a matter of differing taste.

you are talking about lomonaaeren, right? cuz then I understand what you are saying. I do think you over-dramatize this whole think, seeing how there is almost no H/D fandom & activity anymore (and thus no wank). tell me who you are talking about and then we can have an actual opinion on the thing.

lol, H/D is still huge. There are five/six/seven fests a year packed with submissions. I think maybe you've been out of it for a while and just don't know what's going on any more.

So anyone want to take bets on if...

A. This is a legit innocent person with a reasonable opinion who got shat on for disagreeing with the hivemind.

B. This is someone innocently dumb who commented something like "Ugh, why does that fic keep getting recced? It's pretty sucky." In a We <3 That Fic group?

C. This is like the secret from a few weeks before where a shota writer went batshit and started flaming people about how their fics were the only true pure love fics and everyone else in the fandom went "WTF?!" and then they came bawwing to F!S that no one appreciated their 'concrit'

Irresistible Poison? Because that was my shit back in 02-01.

Also... completely OT, but anon has been out of the H/D fandom for over 5 years now and is interested in possibly rekindling the romance. Any recs for recent works/communities which host quality fic? <.<
