On the one hand I felt the same about Alex/Owen on Nikita (who have definitely never met in canon and it's really unclear at this point if they will) when they got super duper popular over the summer. It's just like...where did that come from? So I can relate there.

But at the same time, eh, whatever. People shipping odd pairings don't bother me. The behavior of some of those shippers can be extremely obnoxious, but that's true of shippers of canon ships too.

Maybe they would be less obnoxious if people would stop being dicks about their pairing.

Well, the specific behavior that I was referring to was the entitled "the writers have acknowledged that a bunch of fans ship these character so when are they going to stop wasting time with other ships and have these two meet and get together because they're so clearly perfect for each other and are totally endgame" attitude that some of them exhibit (referring to Nikita specifically with that particular example).

The point was I don't have a problem with people shipping pairings that I don't. If a ship become really popular I'll often times try to understand it so that I can enjoy the multitude of fanworks that will be produced, but if I can't, whatever, it's none of my business. I tried to like or at least appreciate Alex/Owen, I couldn't, I'd be happy to move on. But when fans, whether it's fanon or canon ships, go out of their way to complain about anything and everything that isn't in support of their ship, in spaces that aren't ship specific so that I stumble into it without going looking for it or trying to step on anyone's toes, I do find it obnoxious, and I'm not going to pretend otherwise because some people might misinterpret my annoyance at how some people choose to express their shipping preferences with thinking they don't have the right to ship whoever they want to ship.

That wasn't really related to the secret, I guess, but apparently it was a point I felt like making today.
