Also, along the same vein, while I realize that it may be more of a U.S. rule than a universal rule, it drives me nuts when people place periods (and/or commas) outside the quotation marks. It's just...so strange and awkward-looking.

Nazi should be banned as a descriptor for anything other than nazis.

But there's also nazis that weren't Nazis?

"Nazi" is a short way to say "Nationalsozialismus" and it's used to refer both to the ideology and the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei. In both cases, it should be capitalised.

There were people who adhere to the Nazi ideology without being part of the Nazi party, of course, but the rule stays the same: one can be a Liberal, without being part of the Liberal party, after all.

No need to explain, this is exactly why I questioned it, because you(?) said it was capitalised because it's a political party. Would "Neo-Nazi" be capitalised too then?
English is my second language and well, we capitalise a lot of things in German so it's not a good indicator.
