Well it's easy to ship people who have never appeared together take Hal/Cutler from Being human they have still yet to interact (although the promo is looking good!) but that ship was called from the start. It's all about complimentary personalities and the idea that Lestrade is sent as an agent of Mycroft to keep and eye on Sherlock.
