When this happened to me, it was hard to keep a good frame of mind sometimes. Not because some people liked something I didn't, but because it was hard to see so much attention and excitement given to something I couldn't enjoy. I wanted to stay in the fandom, but it was tough to feel left out.

But some people seem to be fueled by hating stuff, which I don't understand. I think once something gets to a point where you can't avoid hating on it, it's usually a good time to get some distance. I don't enjoy getting annoyed by stuff I don't like.

Tough to feel left out? Try being one of the only few people actually looking forward to the new material and being in a fandom where those who hate it think they own the damn place.

I think it's a situation where everyone feels left out, to be honest. It seems like whenever there's a conflict like that, everybody feels like they're the ones who have the unpopular opinions. It's usually not a one-sided thing, in my experience.

Though, I think it also depends a lot on the individual fandom, too. Climates can be different, and shift over time. Smaller communities/cliques within fandoms can make a difference, too. It's a much different experience to be part of a circle that mostly feels like you do, for example, than to be part of a circle that doesn't.

In general, it's not a matter of one "side" having it worse. It's a situation that tends to divide fandoms as a whole.
