But some people seem to be fueled by hating stuff, which I don't understand. I think once something gets to a point where you can't avoid hating on it, it's usually a good time to get some distance. I don't enjoy getting annoyed by stuff I don't like.

Though, I think it also depends a lot on the individual fandom, too. Climates can be different, and shift over time. Smaller communities/cliques within fandoms can make a difference, too. It's a much different experience to be part of a circle that mostly feels like you do, for example, than to be part of a circle that doesn't.
In general, it's not a matter of one "side" having it worse. It's a situation that tends to divide fandoms as a whole.
