I like nu!Uhura, but I totally agree that the love interest plot line was very "wut" inducing. I actually wouldn't even have minded them being together if it had a bit less out of left-field and if Uhura had gotten more of a chance to shine as a character in her own right. The only reasons it seemed to be included were for shock value/a few quick punchlines and to establish that Spock ~had emotions~. It seemed... really unnecessary. (And this is coming from someone who loved the movie overall.)

Besides, everyone knows if Uhura is going to end up with someone from the ship it's Scotty.

No kidding. I wasn't sold on it at first but graphics convinced me that I want to see Uhura and Scotty together in XII (or XIII or whatever).

Exactly. I would have been fine with it, but it came out of nowhere and basically made her feel like a prop to me.
