As a liberal atheist, I wish they'd get off my side. They just give the Republicans something to point to when saying my side is just as bad as theirs.

Came here to say this. I would normally agree with their points (well, most of them) but the abrasive, in your face, you're 100% with us or you're 100% against us, mean atmosphere puts my back up. It makes me wish I wasn't on their side. Or better yet, they weren't on mine.

C'mon, we're supposed to be the good guys here. I wish more people would act like it.

I'm sorry, but this makes me laugh. I can't decide whether I think it's great that you believe this or that it's just foolishness. Trust me, neither side is better than the other, and I'm speaking from first-hand experience here (see my other post).

The "good guys" are not the politicians—Republicans or Democrats. The good guys are the hardworking American people. But sadly, we've been so conditioned that this is the way politics works—that Republicans are religious fanatics who hate gays and women's rights, while Democrats are amoral hippies who love welfare and orgies—that we just buy into it. It's almost less about the issues and more about the mud-slinging.

Call me disillusioned (which I'm sure I am given all the utter bullshit I've seen or heard about from other reporters/aides/etc.), but that doesn't make it any less true.

I consider myself an Independent because I like to look at each individual issue (my views fall on both sides of the political aisle) rather than take sides with some political party.

As someone who's spent a ton of time in the political journalism arena (between college and my current job at a fairly well-known newspaper) and has made some friends on both sides of the aisle, I can honestly tell you one thing: Democrats are no better than Republicans.

Sorry to break it to you, but trust me, I've seen equal amounts of bullshit, lies, trickery, etc. from both sides. I've seen Democratic politicians make deals with certain members of the press to print garbage and lies about other Republicans. I've seen Democrats purposely hold bills back from Republican representatives until after the actual vote was taken so that the Republicans wouldn't be able to review it before it went to vote. And I've seen a whole hell of a lot of the aforementioned lies, trickery and downright thievery to get their agenda pushed through. Trust me, anything you think about the Republicans (who most definitely have their own agendas and who are just as bad with their lies and trickery) and what they do, Democrats are just as bad.

Granted, most of my experience is with California politicians and those in Washington DC, so I can't speak for other states, but at the end of the day, in my experience, very few politicians are above it—Democrat OR Republican. They're all politicians, and, as the joke goes (though it's not that far off), the word "politician" just means many (poli-) blood-sucking leaches (tic).

Democrats are no better than Republicans.

In terms of tactics, or issues? Because I'd buy that if you're talking about tactics -- Washington works the way Washington works. On issues and platforms, though? The Democrats aren't the ones trying to shove the US government (and ultrasound wands) into my uterus. They're not the ones trying to keep Planned Parenthood from being able to afford to offer me BC and gyno exams. They're not the ones leading the charge against LGBT rights. They're not the ones trying to institute de-facto poll taxes and other underhanded voter-suppression tricks to disenfranchise minorities, young people, and the elderly. So you'll forgive me if I have a hard time believing that one side is "no better than" the other.

lol @ anyone who thinks that _p is at all ra-ra for the Democrats. Most of them hate the way almost every Democratic politician operates; the Dems are just the lesser of the two evils.
