Uh OP I think you have a case of nostalgia goggles

So far Korra looks about twice as impressive to me. Really lively expressions, gestures and battle choreography all around. Not that ATLA didn't have it's glorious moments too but looking at the first season now it's easy to tell they had much less money and talent to work with back then.

The subtly different style is going to take some getting used to, yeah. But I think I'm going to like it. :) And hey, we've only seen the first episode. Who's to say it won't grow on you?

It was the first episode, OP. Even with Avatar: The Last Airbender there was an adjustment period of getting the style/animation/personalities down. Plus all of the characters are older than the Gaang was, so that shifts the style a bit too.

PLUS, We've only seen Korra interact with a handful of people, most of them being very serious types. I'm sure once she meets Mako and Bolin, the silly fun antics will pick up a little bit, as well as the crazy faces.

Give it time OP, and I'm sure it won't disappoint us.

The newest trailer has Korra interacting with both Mako and Bolin...Dont care for Bolin at all, but they're laughing together in the scene. Love her with Mako so far, and the scene has him making a joke about her spirit animal. So yeah :B

But... it's pretty well animated. So far, at least.

It was slightly better than A:TLA. Plus, it's just an intro episode. It's not very strong yet in terms of story, though the anticipation has sure gotten me interested in the future of this series. :3

Do you mean the aesthetics? Because the aesthetics are definitely lacking the fun and charm I liked about atla. The concept art is way too industrial and grey for my tastes to the point where I'm not interested in watching it.

The animation seems good from what I've seen, but I haven't seen much.

ia. i haven't seen any episodes or anything other than trailers and i just don't like the way it looks. it's less cartoony than i'd like.

Republic City's aesthetics fucks everything up. That is not Shangai in the 1920s, that is fucking San Francisco in the 1950s. Bryke has no fucking idea of what steampunk really is.

I really miss the Asian aesthetics the original series had. That was the original spirit, not what they are doing now. Not that I say that is bad, people are free to enjoy it as much as they can. But I certainly won't.

Wow, people are already bitching about this show and it's not even out yet. I think I'm gonna do myself a favor and avoid this fandom like I did for the first series.

MTE. But it was easies avoiding it for the first series. I watched it on German tv, when half of the episodes had already aired. Now, however, I'll depend on streams and links, so avoiding fandom completely is not possible. Oh well, I'll find the Korra/Asami corner and hide there.

Great animation, terrible pacing. Like, terrible.

I have an issue with the development. Come on, I'm supposed to believe that societies went from what we saw in The Last Airbender (pretty much all Asian aesthetics, to... what appears to be something analogous to the 1920s-ish (suits, I believe I saw pinstriped suits in the trailer, skyscrapers, some kind of motorized car-like vehicle at some point) in roughly a century? Without all of our cultural contributions? Suits are descended from 17th century French (and later British) royal court dress. Skyscrapers are tentatively descended from early Roman apartment buildings (I don't know that much about architectural history, please forgive if I am wrong). In fact, a lot looks heavily European.

Where the hell did it come from in Korra? I do not see the lines of descent.

If the animation really is bad, that's just a nail in the coffin.
