Well, one is canon and the other is only implied (if that even).

I think both ships are sick, wrong, and unhealthy.

People are free to ship whatever and I've certainly been in relationships that were sick, wrong and unhealthy for me so I'm no saint, but I think one should call a spade a spade. I ship Kagome and Sesshomaru from InuYasha and he's tried to kill her on many occasions, so I get that when it comes to fiction real-world expectations and morals get a bit skewed. Even I can admit some of my personal ships make no goddamn sense in-canon and require some OOC-ness or as I view it: "additional character development'.

Personally, I've never liked Spuffy at all. At first it was just 'cause I don't find James Marsters that physically attractive but I soon realized the whole thing was severely fucked up and they were totally wrong for each other. Spike was in love with the idea of Buffy, not the person. He wanted the Slayer, not the emotionally vulnerable human girl who just wants to be normal.

I'm beginning to see the appeal of SanSan more and more, mostly from awesome fanart. Though I still think it's terribly contrived and makes almost no sense. Both are just wrong for each other and they could never have a healthy happy life together. Liking the ship is fine, but expecting them to live happily ever after together is just delusional.

I like Spuffy because I find unhealthy relationship closer to the relationships I've had in real life and therefore relate to them better. I find unhealthy relationships more realistic and more interesting.

Because they both love each other and hate each other at the same time.

I feel like I get more out of "toxic" relationships than "functional" relationships.

Am I doing it wrong?

Not at all.

Fandom is just fantasy. It's all in good fun.

I don't take shipping of all things seriously at all, personally.

Being all judgy and mean goes against the spirit of fandom imo.

I tend to ship based upon whether I can relate to it and that certainly requires some amount of imperfection and unhealthiness.

Being in love tends to make people crazy anyways.

To be honest, in the GoT 'verse no one seems to live happily ever after, healthily or otherwise. So I guess you just take what you can get? XD

Healthy, happy, "normal" relationships are wonderful in real life, but don't necessarily make for interesting reading.

Though it would be hilarious if he trolled all of us and ended ASOIAF with Babies Everafter and Pairing the Spares with everyone alive and getting exactly what they wanted.

Yeah, I totally agree "normal" is boring and prefer some level of unhealthy/wrongness to interest me, it's just we all have our limits and sometimes it gets triggery or disturbing for some people.

SanSan only pisses me off in that a number of people take this cloying romantic view to it, like it's Beauty and the Beast or some shit. Ship it if you want, but you gotta acknowledge how fucked up it is.
