SPOILERS for Game of Thrones if you haven't seen the show...

The woman who "healed" Drogo and turned him into a vegetable and did the blood magic that killed Dany's baby, and so forth.

I'd maybe agree with you if I didn't feel that Dany didn't deserve to lose everything in that way.

I sort of do too. If I was in her situation, I'd have probably done the same.

But I'm rooting for Dany so I was glad (sort of) the woman burned, because Dany needed to learn to be ruthless.

I love Danny, but I kinda agree. Most people in that universe would have revenged in horrible ways, if they were in that woman's place.

I can empathize with her and understand why she did what she did, but I don't feel bad that she died either.

[identity profile] youremyqueen.livejournal.com 2012-03-30 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
But wasn't that sort of the point? In ASOIAF/GOT there are very few clear-cut heroes and villains. What's a terrible atrocity from one person's POV is completely justified from someone else's POV and seen as par for the course from yet another person's POV.

It's part of what makes it awesome.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-30 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Why does everyone write about Danny? This is even remotely abut her, it's about Khal Drogo and his army raping and murdering an entire town and getting what he deserved a thousand times over.

I mean, it's hard for me to be like "I support killing", but she was getting her revenge, and I can't really hold it against her.

[identity profile] visp.livejournal.com 2012-03-31 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
It really was just such a spectacular "Fuck You!" Clever and brave and a proportionate response. (Not that 2 wrongs make a right) She also explained how this meant more of her villages would live in peace because there'd be less Dothraki warlords around - so she wasn't just doing it for revenge, but for her people's future well-being.

And mainly the "Your people slaughtered my neighbors and raped me and you think I'm just going to forgive that because you were a little nice? Allow me to serve you a heaping bowl of 'go fuck yourself.'

[identity profile] canadian-kazz.livejournal.com 2012-03-31 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
I understand why she did it, but I don't support it. on the other hand, I don't support what Rehgo would've done either. That whole thing is a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" for me.

[identity profile] othellia.livejournal.com 2012-03-31 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't like her the first time I read the books, but after awhile and by the time the series came out I was unabashedly on her side as well.

Drogo was already a fearsome warlord who's men raped and plundered anything in their path, viewing it as both honor privilege. Dany's child was foretold to be a warlord who'd surpass even that in terms of blood and violence. Mirri was given the opportunity to avenge her people and destroy her enemy as well as a potential future threat. I love Dany, but I also think Mirri's actions were entirely justified.

[identity profile] the-glow-worm.livejournal.com 2012-03-31 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I hated what she did, but she had a damn good right to do it.

[identity profile] thezmage.livejournal.com 2012-03-31 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Is this about having a baby out of wedlock? Or just being on Jersey Shore in the first place?

I dunno about SUPPORT, but I respected the shit out of it. Hardcore, brutal vengeance. It's shaky moral ground but it's not like she didn't have anything to be mad about.

[identity profile] bamboo.livejournal.com 2012-03-31 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
I don't support killing an unborn child for what he could potentially do in the future, but I could understand her wanting revenge on Drogo.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-31 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I would say Mirri stop being a victim and justified when her plan for vengeance included the unborn baby. But Mirri too is consumed by the same vengeance she started and it was all in vain. And Pissing off Daenerys in such an obvious way has more grim future consequences for those on Essos and Westeros :/

Daenerys may have understood her point of view, but she also did not forgive and took her own vengeance, so Mirri dies a horrific, painful death burning alone with no gods or magic to save her like a condemned witch.

Mirri unwisely gave Dany a crash course in blood magic.

Dany gave birth dragons, dragons who will do her biding, dragons which burn people and whole cities to ashes.

Instead of breaking a khaleesi as Mirri hoped the naive queen is made stronger---and if she survives the course of the series with her dragons---she will become a ruthless force to be reckoned with if anyone tries to hurt her again or the remnants of her following khalasar.

So Mirri did more harm than good not only for her own people but other cultures and cities in the future :/

[identity profile] nemo-de-la-meer.livejournal.com 2012-03-31 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I watched the show and just finished this chapter in the book last night (yeah, late reader) and honestly, I have no idea who I agree with.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-31 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I really like the fact that both Mirri and Dany had understandable motivations for their actions and that you could empathize with both of them. Or I did, anyway. I felt bad when "the witch" died. But I also wouldn't say that Dany actually had enough power in this situation to "deserve" revenge (her husband definitely did, but Dany's just a kid, one who was sold to him, at that), and she did try to do what she thought was right despite the negative consequences of her "saving" the women. The baby couldn't really be guilty, either.

That said, I'd have understood if Mirri had killed them all, considering the atrocious stuff done to her and her people.

[identity profile] ian-karkull.livejournal.com 2012-03-31 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Mirri is a pretty sympathetic character. I completely understand her motivation and actually very brave, though it's ultmately pointless because I think the Prophecy is really about Drogon.

[identity profile] htebazytook.livejournal.com 2012-03-31 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL me too, a little. I get it, at least. I'd probably do the same thing in her situation tbh

(Anonymous) 2012-04-03 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
I honestly thought she (Mirri) was a sympathetic character, and in a way, I think this scene also cleverly revealed a little bit of Dany's idealism/naivete/entitlement/hero complex.

I can't help thinking that, if it had happened to my tribe, I'd have felt the same way, and wanted to do the same thing.
