Isn't it better to let the authorities know, than a bunch of fans who honestly will not care?

Stereotypes are hard to overcome. :)

Well, there's oh no they didn't, of course, but...

(Anonymous) 2012-03-31 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)Usually it eventually comes out, look at the celebrities who've been eventually outed as violent to their wives or kids. Steve McQueen for example. Not that it stops people admiring their work, but the truth of their character is at least out there.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-31 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)Outing him out won't make you exactly look very good, either, and he can use it as mean to look like the poor victim who ended with a horrible person like you (people like that are experts on using that to their advantage). It would be more effective if you go with the law to at least force hom to do his duty with your child...

And the suggestion of talking to the authorities? You do understand how often they DON'T go after deadbeat dads or the laws in the state of residence are an utter joke? You're not only coming across as insensitive but extremely naive.

I suppose if I could give any advice at all, it would be that if you chose to say something to the public definitely be specific. Saying "he's a bad father" and things that people brush aside like no child support will make them think you just have a problem with your ex. If you have specific examples of things he did, that would be better. If you have evidence, that would be a million times better, as otherwise he will deny what you say and it will be your word against his.
And people are typically fond of a person they know (or know of) and reticent to start hating that person and their work based on the words of a stranger, so they'll look for an excuse to pin it on you. Unfortunately we live in a culture that encourages abusive behavior by saying "it's not that bad" and "what can you do?" or "you're just looking for attention" and worse when victims speak up. The really sad truth is that by speaking out you will expose yourself to that ugliness, and it hurts terribly. But if you're willing to be vilified by the people who will defend him no matter what, I'd say you should feel free to go public.
