And here I was thinking fandom's favourite is AO3, WHOOPS.

[identity profile] rocketgirl2.livejournal.com 2012-04-15 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Not gonna lie, it's fast becoming my favorite. I like their broader tagging and their warning system so much better than ffn's, and though they still have some work to do with getting rid of stupid tags and such, it's overall a pretty good archive.

[identity profile] vickyblueeyez.livejournal.com 2012-04-15 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a tag wrangler there but my fandoms are taken. I'd personally like to get rid of all nonsense tags but nonsense tags are opinions.

I do like Ao3 more than FF.net. It separates my fandoms. You can see all the fics I've wrote for one fandom and another unlike ff.net.

[identity profile] hooves.livejournal.com 2012-04-15 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
True, though on FFN I just go filter by "Category", scroll down to the fandom, and read from there.

[identity profile] deadtree.livejournal.com 2012-04-15 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought so too. I don't know anyone who uses ff.net really anymore. LJ is good for anon memes though.

[identity profile] drunken-clowns.livejournal.com 2012-04-15 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
AO3's gaining, but a lot of people don't really like it as much, so.

I like the format and how the tags make it easier to find the kind of thing you're looking for, but at least in my fandoms, there's a lot more badfic than what I'm used to on LJ. The site also seems to have a way different attitude about fanfiction than most people who write it do, and yeah it's kind of a turnoff.

[identity profile] tweedisgood.livejournal.com 2012-04-16 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? In what way, would you say? I've not noticed Ao3 having any 'attitude' in particular. I love it for my small corner of fandom.

[identity profile] drunken-clowns.livejournal.com 2012-04-16 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I don't think the users have any attitude in particular, and most seem very sweet. The Organization For Transformative Works, who runs it, seems to take fanfiction a bit more seriously than the average fan, though, and that can be annoying to people who don't want to see their hobby as serious business and feel a little embarrassed by something like that?

[identity profile] tweedisgood.livejournal.com 2012-04-16 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, ok. I haven't really had anything to do with the site runners. I take fanfiction semi-seriously (try to write as well as I can, do quite a lot of research for stories, etc.) but in the end it is just a hobby.

[identity profile] drunken-clowns.livejournal.com 2012-04-17 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Same, though I don't write that much and post it even less frequently. I try to do the best I can and want it to be good for what it is, but in the end, it's fanfic, not a ~transformative work~. I love fanfic but most of it really is more about wanting to see your favorite characters doing cool things or wanting your ship to bump uglies than any real attempt to make art.

Entertainment doesn't need to be anything more than entertainment to matter to people, you know? So it kinda grinds my gears when people need to make it something fancy and deep instead of just fun.

AO3 still has a lot of good fic, though :D

[identity profile] htebazytook.livejournal.com 2012-04-20 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
How are they taking it too seriously? One of the things I love about AO3 is how silly and fun the administrative stuff is

[identity profile] hoggle2807.livejournal.com 2012-04-15 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel like an idiot. Because generally just outright fail at navigating AO3.

[identity profile] hooves.livejournal.com 2012-04-15 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't figure out how to navigate the site, either. I just really Do Not Get It.

[identity profile] snow-chibi.livejournal.com 2012-04-16 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
You're not alone. =/ I've tried but lost patience.

(Anonymous) 2012-04-16 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
tbh I hate AO3, elitist bs imo. Everybody on there acts like they are the shit but I've read more badfic on there then on lj!

(Anonymous) 2012-04-16 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
Note: A03 is an ARCHIVE, not an exclusive club.

(Anonymous) 2012-04-16 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, I just post my fic there to have it up and out there, I didn't know I was meant to be all snooty and elitist about it. Thanks for the heads-up!

[identity profile] tweedisgood.livejournal.com 2012-04-16 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
*Everybody*? Well, okay then. Not quite sure how simply posting fic (which is all anyone I know ever does) makes you someone who "acts like they are the shit", but hey.

[identity profile] kuyanhjudith.livejournal.com 2012-04-16 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
I find AO3 much more user friendly than fanfic.net- I like to avoid explicit fic, and on AO3 I can just scroll past anything with the wrong icons rather than needing to read the tags. The same goes if I want to avoid shipping fic. And the tags- more numerous, larger and prominently located than on AO3- make it easier to avoid things I want to avoid, such as incest pairings.

Also, I find AO3's formatting for fics easier to read.

I haven't checked out fanfic on Livejournal yet. I plan to do so soon.

(Anonymous) 2012-04-16 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I really, really like it! But some of my fandoms are underrepresented there. One only has four fics :(

(Anonymous) 2012-04-16 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
My fics make up the whole fandom representation in at least two cases :< I guess they're obscure to begin with, but...

[identity profile] htebazytook.livejournal.com 2012-04-20 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
Um exactly lol
