I like Rose and I dislike River. However, those facts are completely disconnected. I don't think that Rose is the Doctor's only love ever.

I think that ultimately Rose's journey is a very fulfilling and interesting one, where she learns how to become a better person, that she's meant for more and ultimately is quite interesting. River, on the other hand, decided her job because of a man and I never found her arc that interesting.

Also, I prefer RTD's writing/showrunning over Moffat's, any day.

I want to adore River. Badass female time traveling archaeologist? Sign me up! Unfortunately yeah, her story turned out less than stellar.

Yep. I liked everything about River until S6 revealed her shitty origin story. Since Moffat considers ~mysterious to be a personality trait, whyyy couldn't he leave River's past a little ambiguous? Instead, we get a woman whose entire existence revolves around the Doctor.

Hell, I would have found it interesting if he gave her a back story that WASN'T Doctor-centric. If she was just as strong but had strengths that weren't Doctor related (as in, doesn't have to drive the TARDIS better than him but does something almost equally cool) and had a backstory that was autonomous to the Doctor's and was just another person travelling through space and time, THAT would be cool. But no.

I actually liked River a lot up until Season 6. Then it was like all her autonomy got stripped away and she just became another person - albeit a "special" person - chasing frantically after the Doctor. I'd rather have Rose, Martha, or Donna any day of the week.
