Yeah, you keep on with your delusions there. It's not like she's a poorly developed abrasive personality or anything. (Not that I don't like some characters with abrasive personalities, but I don't take it personally when people disagree with me)

Why/how do you find her abrasive? I adore River, and I recognize she's a strong upfront personality, but that doesn't translate as abrasive to me, so I'm curious. (Everyone interprets things differently etc)

Not who you asked, but "strong upfront personality" and "abrasive" are pretty much synonyms. Which one you use depends on whether you view that as a good trait or not.

I think a lot of it has to do with the writing- I feel like I can never actually experience River as a character seperate from the writer's intentions for her to Be Totally Awesome And Beloved. There's a whole bunch of episodes where she's introduced in this grand and dramatic way (Time of the Angels, The Pandorica Opens) only to not really be integral to the plot in any way that couldn't have been contributed by a more low key character. And admittedly I'm a bit behind on my Who, but I never saw her just being tired, or bad at something, or vulnerable about anything besides the Doctor (which feels like cheating, because what character isn't vulnerable compared to the Doctor?) all of which would have endeared me to her.
Besides which, there's her super polarizing catchphrases (Spoilers! Hello Sweetie!) which to me at least, stink of marketability rather than feeling like organic things a person would say in the circumstances.
