In my opinion, LJ has a much better user interface for reading fic. Easier on the eyes, no intrusive ads, formating, organizing, all of that I find easier to navigate and such on LJ than on ff.net. One of the reasons I loathe ff.net is the chapters and lack of one page viewing. People over there tend to post a story with 50 "chapters" that are like 200 words each. It's fucking annoying as all hell. You don't get a lot of that on LJ.

Re: "The Pit" - because back in the day 95% of what was posted on there was utter crap, and there was a lot of it. A pit of despair, a pit of sadness, a pit of unorganized trash.

Ugh, I hate the 200 word "chapters" as well...unless it's a drabble collection or something. I actually like FFN's chapter system, but I do hate how people think a 200 word installment of a story is somehow worthwhile when it's supposed to be some long epic. I tend to just skip stories like that. :/

Ass someone who has an ongoing story made up of small chapters (I don't know if I have got as low as 200 but I vary anywhere between 300 to 1000), I do not have the concentration and motivation to write long chapters, so short ones are the best for me.

I however do not deny that there are likely writers out there who do it straight out of laziness.
