Because while LJ is harder to navigate, FFN bans certain fandoms and genres. Also, FFN doesn't lead to discussion about the fic, which many authors find important and meaningful.

If a review's signed they have a review reply feature for private conversation. I've exchanged a lot of words with reviewers, although a public platform is certainly better. (I guess I could set up a forum - another thing FFN does well - but it wouldn't be the same.)

I don't know about genres outside of porn, but the fandom-bans are only on authors who have requested that there be no fic written in their worlds. Or at least they were the last time I posted there.

They don't allow RPF either.

d'oh, you're right. Also scriptfic and second-person fic.

The only fandoms banned are the ones where the creators are douchy and specially request that their precious things not be allowed. Like Anne Rice. That seems fairly reasonable to me. The mods of the site do not want to get in legal trouble--and allowing porn accessible to minors, allowing fanfiction bitchy copyright holders specifically forbid, and blurring lines of creators are all grounds for jailtime or lawsuits or site shut down or whatever else they get threatened with.
