I don't like the ff.net format much. But I keep stumbling into small fandoms that don't have their own archives or much livejournal presence, so I spent more time there than I'd like. The number of reviews a story has can be a useful indicator as to it's quality; if it has significantly more than average there's usually a reason.

This. AO3 is nice, but not even they has much from my small fandoms.

AO3 is also a lot newer than ff.net - how long has ff.net had to gather all these fics and let the sections grow? I hope that these sections will fill out on AO3 as well before long.

My small fandoms are RPF, so ff.net has nothing :[

Usually, yes - although I have seen some dreadful fics with hundreds of reviews. In most cases, this rule holds true. If only there were a way to sort by reviews, life on FF.net would be much easier.
