Exactly what I was going to say, word-for-word in the first sentence.

On LJ, people tend to put in a lot of effort into fanfiction, partly because the better it is, the more reviews it'll get in a place that's not necessarily meant for posting fanfiction. That and maybe a little bit of fear of being mocked and torn up for shortcomings.

Edit: That said, no, it definitely is not the worst possible place ever; that's an exaggeration. I do remember finding some really cute, silly LotR fics there. Some of my favorites, in fact, because they were care-free and marked as "Humor". Fics like that have their merits and there's a time when a person does want to kick back and read one or two humorous one-shots where the author isn't taking Fandom too seriously (but still in a respectful way).

I think this is true as well. :)

No, no it's not. And I do love the way to check for what kind of fic, humor, family fic, etc. It's a nice way to filter things. :)

I disagree. There is a lot of crappy terrible and heinous fic on LJ. I find my fic gets jack nada reviews on LJ and ff.n cannot get enough of me. Fanfiction.net is much better for the ego.

Same - I always post to AO3 and LJ before ff.net, but it's still ff.net giving me comments and reviews after all this time. LJ, maybe one or two. AO3, none at all. FF.net? A bunch. I can't dislike it for that;;
