I didn't like Rose and I didn't like River either but for different reasons, I don't think the Doctor is not allowed to love or have a relationship with someone so their relationships with the Doctor aren't part of that.

I just think River is too amazing super special badass character who's a woman!omg she can marry the doctor and is his equal etc, she feels less like a character to me then a number of omg so awesome traits which makes her feel forced. And before you say it I would feel this is a male character came into the show in the same way.I didn't like River in the library episode and really didn't want her to return so maybe I was predisposed not to like her for 11.

I think the comparisons to Jack are wrong though, he wasn't really shown to be omg amazing and besides the flirting and some extra knowledge there is little the same between the two characters.
