Hence the stories there aren't always of the highest quality, because it's where people get their first fic experiences (myself and everyone I've ever talked to on the subject posted their first, and what they claim to be appalling, fic there). It's where people tend to play around at first, and some people move on, others don't, that's absolutely fine. But consequently the ratio of good fic (YMMV) on LJ is higher because the people who post there are those who've had a bit of experience, improved their writing and looking to be separated from the image of The Pit and the images of noobs and 'i want the next update!!!' that circulates it.
If you take the rather insulting assumption that bad is correlated to new, the amount of new authors on FF.net is a lot higher than on LJ.
