I understand where you're coming from, but it's not really fair to blame fandom for your choices. It's just like any hobby, albeit with an almost endless amount of things to do, but you still make choices with how to spend your time and how you treat your friends.

Not trying to be all judgy, anon, because I feel you, I really do. But it might be time for a perspective change and/or a reality check. You control your life and choices; your hobbies don't control them for you.

(P.S. I've struggled with grades and used fandom as a crutch, but it's not the direct reason. I'd find something or other to waste my time on. Fandom has actually helped me make and maintain friendships irl, so that probably depends on who you talk to and how you handle it.)
