...is there seriously anyone who just wants to discuss gore?

Becuase I know a lot of people who are most interested in the politcs/ethics/themes, and a few people who are most interested in the romance, but absolutely no one who is just sitting there going "WHOO, CHILD MURDER!".

Yes, actually, I've encountered several people who do.

To be honest, I'm at the majority of films to see shit get blown up and to watch hot men eventually lose their shirts, because it must be in their contract or something that if they're in an action film, their clothes must be ragged by the end and the woman must run in slow motion at least once.

If I wanted intelligence I wouldn't be watching a movie that capitalizes on shit getting blown up and the aforementioned shirtlessness.

Oh, no, I love watching films just for explosions (and shirtlessness). I just don't understand why you'd look to The Huger Games for that, given that the central message of the books is about the horror and psycological destructiveness of war and violence, and most of the violence in the books is pretty horrible. The Hunger Games is all violence-as-serious-business. If I want violence-as-cheap-entertainment I watch action films.

Haha, fair enough. I haven't read/seen THG so I'll trust your knowledge is much deeper than mine. XD

I think certain people go to see the Hunger Games for the violence specifically because you're not supposed to enjoy the violence. Then when they do they feel special because they weren't bothered by it at all when most people were. Basically it's the same reason most people watch torture-porn. It's one big competition to see who's the most jaded because people love to get competitive about the dumbest things.

I'm sitting here wondering what there is to discuss.

"Oh man that was so awesome when that guy got blown up!"
"Awesome indeed, good sir!"
And...then what?

I even appreciate that kind of stuff, it's just that there's not much to talk at length about there.

(Anonymous) 2012-04-29 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I imagine they'd discuss who they enjoyed being blown up the most, why - which one sucked the most to watch, why, and various things like that?

IDK, I can see how people who enjoy that stuff might have a discussion that [to them] is interesting...but I'd probably be bored out of my mind XD

(Anonymous) 2012-04-29 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
The fact that people were freaking out over the films being PG-13 because that meant there couldn't be enough blood and gore for them? Yep... definitely.

(Anonymous) 2012-04-29 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Or just that the violence was an integral part of the book? Or that the point of the book was that violence is horrible, but glamorized by hollywood? Yeah, the nerve of those people wanting the movie to stay true to the book.
