If part of the purpose of a ficmeme is to have stuff for people to read (which I think it is), you're doing it very right. Nothing wrong with giving yourself a gift that you share with all your friends.

As it goes in Evita:

"Now you may feel it should have been a voluntary cause
But that's not the point my friends
When the money keeps rolling in, you don't ask how
Think of all the people guaranteed a good time now"
- And the Money Keeps Rolling In.

Replace "money" with "fic" and that pretty much sums up how most readers will probably feel if they ever found out.

I do this too, and I get royally pissed when someone actually fills my prompt. Multiple fills are almost always accepted, but it sure takes the enjoyment out of it when someone else snipes my plan. ;___;

(Anonymous) 2012-05-02 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought of doing that, but I'd feel guilty. And I think it's silly. If you're that bent on writing a fic, why do you need to fill a prompt anyway? Couldn't you just post it?

(Anonymous) 2012-05-02 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Not OP, but more exposure/gauging reaction to the prompts. You get way more feedback on actual ideas when you're anon and don't have whatever feelings might be associated with your username coming into play. People don't say it's a good idea for brownie points with anons.

Aside from what anon said, I personally find it's a easier to motivate myself to write when there's some sort of clear objective. Writing for prompts is a lot easier than just writing a fic, so writing my own prompts can make sense.

Whatever, I just want there to be fic even if it's secretly OP

Well, if your main community is as shitty and capriciously modded as my fandoms, and your fandom's kinkmeme is as awesome and full of lovely anons as my fandoms, I can perfectly see why you'd do this.

This.

I wonder how many people do this, though I do see people outright saying they're filling their own prompts, or even volunteering unprompted fic because they were so inspired by the overall meme, and there's definitely no harm done so long as everyone gets fic.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-03 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
I do the same... once I write out a prompt, I get to thinking about the story, and so then I just want to read it, but no one's ever filled a prompt of mine before, so I just write it myself. XD

(Anonymous) 2012-05-03 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
Meh, I do the same thing, except I post the prompt first and then just fill it. It kind of provides motivation for me to actually write the fic, especially if lots of people are seconding the prompt.

[identity profile] lunik-the-bard.livejournal.com 2012-05-03 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to admit, I've thought about doing this before. Almost all of the fic I've written has been prompted on the kink meme, so when I come up with a fic on my own I get the bizarre urge to prompt it myself. Just for the sake of familiarity. Once or twice, I've written fic and just when I was thinking about posting it I found a prompt that it fit. Guess where I decided to post it!

Oh, and once I wrote out a prompt, got halfway to posting it, and then realised I wanted to write it instead. But, since it's not a prompt on the meme - I never finished it!

(Anonymous) 2012-05-03 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I never do this because I can't come up with story ideas without some sort of kick start (s'why I go to the memes in the first place), but if this gets you writing more stories for people to read, and you don't get (visibly) upset when someone else tries their hand at your prompt, then more power to you.

[identity profile] tiger-pause.livejournal.com 2012-05-03 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't think there's anything wrong with that tbh.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-04 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
I do the same thing OP.

Part of the reason is to motivate myself to write faster; if there are people seconding the prompt, I'm more likely to finish quicker. And then is someone else fills it, yay, two fills.
