Its soooo weird to think of Moms in fandom.

I'm 21, but I always sort of imagined that if I ever have kids then fandom will suddenly become uninteresting to me and I'll only be interested in *motherhood* stuff.
I guess it doesn't work that way tho, huh?

Clearly you aren't in the Star Trek fandom. I know tons of Trekkies (including myself) who were introduced to fandom by their parents.

My mom introduced me to both SF/F and fandom :)

I've been in fandom since high school. Jump 15 years later and I'm still in fandom (different fandoms, but still).

Just because you get older doesn't necessarily mean you give up your hobbies. You may not be able to stay up until 3 AM reading/writing fic, but that doesn't mean if I have a spare hour between work and cooking dinner I'm not going to write fic or work out or whatever.

(That's not saying people's interests don't change, which they very well for you. But just speaking for myself, I've always liked writing fic and I'll probably keep writing fic. Just like I like running and hanging out with friends, except my friends now are a bunch of Old Marrieds and not the cool singles crowd).

I remember when I was 21 I thought 30 year-olds in fandom were weird.

That was 10 years ago D:

Just because someone has kids doesn't mean the rest of their life and interests all vanish. Having kids adds a big time-consuming project to one's life, but it doesn't erase one's identity. If one was into fandom one very well may remain interested, just with less time to spend on it.

(I was about to explain the personal experiences that shaped this opinion but realized they might be identifying info.)

Fandom kid of a fandom mom here, and I see lots of touching generational tales over in Myst fandom. So, nope :3

Wow, really? I'm also 21 and I know I'll always be into fandom and/or nerdy stuff to some extent. (And I know I want to have kids one day.)

So... you discount the idea that you might want to share something you love (outside of diaper genies) with your kids someday? Because that's a little sad to me.

Becoming a mother doesn't mean you suddenly turn into a Stepford Wife. Your brain doesn't disappear, nor do your interests, hobbies or anything else. And part of the fun for me anyway has been watching my son (he's five) find his own interests that coincide with mine. We had Mom-Son day at a con last weekend. I went home with comics, he went home with an Iron Man doll. I got my love of comics from my dad, I'm passing on my love of the characters to my son. How is that any different from playing baseball together or fixing cars or any other interest a parent might share with their kid?
