Hot. Hot is how you should feel, anon.

[identity profile] solo-by-choice.livejournal.com 2012-05-13 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
and also Awesome. :)

[identity profile] swaggerdoodle.livejournal.com 2012-05-14 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
All of this. There's not a hair on my body I wouldn't let this woman trim! xD

(Anonymous) 2012-05-15 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
You have weird taste.

[identity profile] helenadax.livejournal.com 2012-05-13 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't say I like that style, but you have to feel comfortable with yourself, wear whatever you want.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-13 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really sure what you're getting at. I don't really see how you would feel good or bad just because you have similarities to a character's style. It is what it is, and you can take it however you want. Good, bad, neutral - whatever you want it to be.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-13 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, whatever works for you is best. Note that she's wearing clothes that are at least a size too large for her, which is how they don't look all that awesome on her...

(Anonymous) 2012-05-13 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
You've only been dressing that way since you've started watching TBBT? Well then, I guess you should be pleased that you've identified a style you like (even if you didn't realise it before now) and that you've copied it successfully. Or maybe you admire the character so much that you're emulating her dress sense. I wonder, have you noticed yourself picking up her character traits, too?

(Anonymous) 2012-05-13 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Read again, OP says she's been dressing like this since before she started watching TBBT.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-13 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
OP here:

I think Amy's an awesome sweetheart, but no, I haven't picked up any of her traits. Like the other anon mentioned, I was dressing like this way before Amy was!

Argyle? Ew.

I don't dress like her (mostly because I only wear what I can afford, and what I can afford is t-shirts and goodwill), but my personality and background are so close that it's pretty freaky to watch. But I really don't care either way. She's an awesome character, and I think she's incredibly attractive.
*shrugs*

(Anonymous) 2012-05-13 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
OP Here:

My entire wardrobe comes from goodwill. You just have to know what to look for! (Although I wonder if there's better-quality clothing at my local Goodwill because I live in a big city? I have a LOT of designer stuff scavenged from thrift stores.)

I think you're probably right. I live in a city of ~70k and our population is mostly pretty poor, so everyone shops there and everyone gives their cheap clothes back. There is a pretty sweet rich-people sourced thrift store not too far from here, though. I just need to get out and visit it. XD
NGL I am really looking forward to TJ Maxx and Ross arriving this summer.

But do you like tiaras? :D

(Anonymous) 2012-05-13 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
OP Here:

Does anyone not? :D

hee. rock on!

The outfit in the pic is cute, OP!

(Anonymous) 2012-05-14 09:03 am (UTC)(link)
oh, honey, honey, it's not too late.

maybe you don't care to, but if you do, it's kinda easy to look 10 times better, you don't even need a new wardrobe just... keep it simple!
buy some jeans that aren't flares (i know it's kinda in, but only trendy women can pull it off lets be honest), don't wear sneakers with jeans ffs (unless its vans/converse and ONE colour is best), don't pattern clash (until you know how), keep it simple with less patterns, NO frills or bows and no words or writing on your clothes. buy some trendy glasses (i can't be fucked wearing contacts either) and you dont need to spend hrs on your hair just make sure its clean and brushed and cut in a fairly up to date hairstyle. there... much better.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-14 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
No sneakers with jeans? Kindly fuck off out of my way in your useless ballet flats, I've got shit to do and places to go and feet to coddle while I'm getting there.

Amy's style is comfy and feminine and approachable with an appreciation for colors and nice textures. If OP is happy in her clothes then they should be proud of themselves. If they aren't, they should feel free to mix it up and change however they want. If that means MORE frills and bows and typography and pattern mixing then they should GO for it. If it means an older hair style that they like then they should roll with it. If it means glasses that fit their face and help them to see, even if it's not on-trend, then they should choose them.

I just REALLY fucking hate it when people assume that there's only one way to look "better". Fuck that. If you want to express your personality through your style choices then you should feel able to do it however you please. If that means slapping your plaids together with your polkadots or if that means wearing menswear on a body with feminine curves or wearing flowy peasant tops on your male torso with beefy shoulders then you should be able to, without incurring the judgment and bullshit of people who assume they know what "better" is.

I'm another one who thinks Mayim Bialik (http://www.mayimbialik.net/gallery_professional.html) is really pretty, so I don't see how looking like her is a bad thing. I'm sure they're flat ironing her hair for the show, and that she does extra hot rollers or something for press/events

I was talking to my boss one day about how we all have "uniforms" that we fall into (a new employee was asking me if there was a dress code at work). One dude always wore a blue Oxford shirt with brown pants (he was colorblind, and his wife bought all his clothes so that they would all match), one guy was always super preppy - one of the only guys I knew who would wear a tie to work "just because," my boss always wears cords and a crew neck tee, I always wear a polo and jeans (winter) or a-line flowered skirt (summer).

It's even a joke with friends: I once bought 6 polos from Gap in one day, but then returned 4 of them because seriously?! (At the register doing the returns I was like "I got a little light headed with that great 'new fabric smell!'") And then by the end of the summer I was like "... I wish I'd kept that orange one. And the green one. Hell, I wish I kept all of them." And my friend was all "You do wear a lot of polos." (I also tend to go in waves - there was a two year period in college when I owned 7 different blue and white striped button down shirts.)

But, I've embraced it with a "whatever" attitude -- I like to think it's a fun personality quirk. Some people do the "if I could take a pill instead of eat, I totally would!" and I'm of the opinion "if I could wear the exact same thing every single day, I totally would!"

The What Not to Wear episode with her (http://tlc.howstuffworks.com/tv/what-not-to-wear/mayim-bialik-makeover-pictures.htm) on it was adorable. ♥
