The problem is, other peoples' cultures aren't there just to be your change of scenery or the exotic spice to season your fandom entertainment. I'm guessing that's why people might not have much sympathy for other people who moan about how all this insistence upon respect toward other cultures is harshing their squee.

I don't really think that watching movies from other cultures means that you're misappropriating them. Isn't this a GOOD thing? Don't we WANT people to completely ignore race, religion, class, and sexuality, and look at everybody based on what they are, first and foremost: a human being?

All cultures have and are constantly changing, therefore there is no such thing as cultural appropriation - unless you pretend to be from a culture that you're not.
But being inspired by a culture - that's just how it is, and always has been.
