I'm not sure how you got that from this secret. I don't know how someone is misappropriating someone else's culture just because they watch movies from different countries, or write fanfics about them. Did I miss something about this secret that I'm just not getting?

I never understood what "white people problems" are supposed to be. I understand POC have an extra layer of struggles they have to deal with because of racism and other related systematic oppression, but why can't there be a lot of overlap on non-race related things?

I feel like people want to treat races like a specific personality, rather than an effect of genetics.
And I find that way more racist than disregarding a person's skin tone to be creative with their characterization.

The problem is, other peoples' cultures aren't there just to be your change of scenery or the exotic spice to season your fandom entertainment. I'm guessing that's why people might not have much sympathy for other people who moan about how all this insistence upon respect toward other cultures is harshing their squee.

I feel afraid drawing POC because I'm just really afraid of unintentionally drawing SOMETHING offensive. (when it comes to this anything will piss SOMEONE off from days lurking fandom)

I'm probably going to get jumped on and get "ohh you poor white person"

but it doesn't help when people get death threats from social justice warriors when mistakes happen... instead helping fix the problem and point out a mistake (as white people we will make mistakes when it comes to this)...SJW just take it way too far...

What the fuck are 'white people problems', and why aren't non-white people allowed to have them? idgi. Not every problem a POC has is going to be a special POC problem. My POC-POV (sorry, I just always wanted to write/say that) problems on a random day are 99% exactly the same as they'd be if I was white. I find the whole idea of "white people problems" much more insulting than an author making a mistake about a culture that they haven't grown up in. It implies that POC are like a whole utterly different species that someone who happens to be white can never ever hope to relate to or share problems, dreams and thoughts with - and vice versa.

BASICALLY I agree with you, OP. Keep writing, and if someone has a problem with it, ask for corrections and make it more accurate. Shrug. Also I find "white people problems" offensive on the POC side as well as the obvious white-people-who-really-do-have-problems side, so I don't know who people are trying to fight for when they use that phrase. If no-one was allowed to write anything that they hadn't personally experienced, well... there wouldn't be much fiction around.

To be honest I don't even know what cultural appropriate means anymore. Today somebody on Tumblr sent me an anon message calling me a hateful cultural-appropriating cunt because I said I missed being able to get fresh tortillas and good Mexican food when I lived in California, so that phrase has pretty much lost all meaning to me.

Is there an actual, concise definition? Or is it gray enough that you could technically argue that I WAS being racist by bemoaning the lack of good fish tacos in my neighborhood? I'm so confused you guys.

I've seen SJW claim that white people should never write about non-white characters. Because POC are a mystic race in which the fragile white person mind can never understand, etc.

I've also seen SJW rant about the evils of any and all charity that goes to Africa from the US, because of "white knighting" problems there. I think that's the point when I realized that dialogue with these people is impossible, because they care more about being angry than they do about making real, positive changes.

I am white, middle-class, and socially privileged. For at least four years of my life, I have had crippling depression and have been actively suicidal two of those four years.

I don't understand if white people problems are "minor problems" or "any problem that a white person has". If it means "minor problems", does that mean POC cannot have minor problems? Do POC not lose charge in their cell phones, or has a POC never realized there's no toilet paper after taking a dump? If it means "any problem", is my depression somehow unimportant or silly? Is there something I am missing here?
