Considering their circumstances, I thought the characters were very mature about their relationship issues, and while the entire love square was shoe-horned in, I rather prefer just one episode devoted to it rather than having to deal with it all season.

Well, people had been complaining about romance subplots since episode 4, so I guess in the minds of some fans it was more than one episode? I don't know, I stay on the outskirts of fandoms this big, and my thoughts on the episode are mostly "Eh, it wasn't fantastic, but it could have been worse and we're moving on to other things."
