Not the OP and only tangentially related but I'm curious. Is there a difference between being racist against a race, and being phobic of that race? If a white person is afraid of black people and it's an uncontrollable irrational phobia, are they racist? If a man is irrationally phobic of women, is he misogynist?

Martha was awesome, Crockett and Tubbs are one of the best cop partner OTPs in TV history, and Psych, while it's had some issues, is still a brilliant show.

at least you're honest. many people have that mindset and never really admit to it, not even internally, so they can't examine the problem and maybe work on changing their views.

I can see why this is a secret. I'm not always attracted to blondes but saying it wouldn't engender the hatred you will get for admitting this. People like what they like. However there is no reason you can't work on expanding your horizons if you admit to yourself that yes, this is a form of racism. You are seriously limiting yourself in terms of happiness.

It's okay not to like characters. In fact, I wasn't all that fond of Martha because she was a bit "too much super model, not enough med student" to me.

But...if I'm reading right, and, you seriously CAN'T enjoy a character because they are black, and you WON'T WATCH A SHOW because of it...then, OP, you do have issues. I could sort of understand if you were talking about attraction (because who we are attracted to is influenced by many things, and isn't always in our control). But if you can't empathize, enjoy someone's storyline or just flat out refuse to watch something because a character is a certain skin tone...c'mon, do you really believe that is not rooted in racism?

You might not actively discriminate against people in real life (which I hope you don't)...but you really should soul-search on why you have such strong feelings about characters of a certain racial group.

You know what, I get it, you have trouble identifying with a character who is not of your race. I don't have that problem personally and Psych is one of my all time fav series, but I guess it happens to everyone, isn't that one of the reasons why minorities want more representation in the media? Y'know among many other reasons.
