Completely agreed.

And Storm is far more famous as as X-men member than an Avenger, non-comic-book geeks would've been like "whut?" Plus, kinda magical-seeming, which wouldn't have fit well.

+1000. Also, Storm's weather powers would look really similar to Thor's lightning, and would keep her from having a unique role on the team. Plus, you know, Marvel not having the rights to her.

I definitely hope that they bring in another female hero or two in the sequel though! I wonder which ones will be best suited though...a lot of the well-known superheroines off the top of my head have very fantastical powers that would seem at odds with the pseudo-realistic movieverse. Ideas?

WAAASP. ALSO SCARLET WITCH. /fangirling them all over this thread whut. Also much much later on, after they inevitably (as they foreshadowed!) do Civil War, if they do anything with the Young Avengers, Kate Bishop (the female Hawkeye) has to be one of my favorite female characters in Marvel, period. Cassie (Stature) is awesome, too, but I can see there being some logistical problems with including her with her comics canon origin. Hmmm.

If they do Civil War anything like how they did it in the comics I will be unbelievably pissed, but a Registration act sounds cool.

And oh yes WASP. A version without Giant-Man/Ant-Man as an Avengers preferably since he's too much like Bruce both in personality and in powers (I went into the movie secret hoping Bruce would randomly name-drop Hank Pym though -- oh how I would kill to see a female superhero who has a totally-not-a-superhero husband/boyfriend who doesn't whine about her being more BAMF than him). Scarlet Witch would be...actually pretty damn awesome if they could figure out a movie-ish way to explain her powers (like they did with the Asgardians). I'm just concerned about avoiding duplicated skill sets that renders the newer character redundant.

[identity profile] insanenoodlyguy.livejournal.com 2012-05-18 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
You can't have Wasp or Ant-Man without the other. They are too intertwined.

I hope to god they stay far, far away from Civil War.

It'd be hard to do anyway. The cast necessary to pull it off would be gigantic. And they don't have the movie rights to half the main players. I think we'd need a decade of Marvel putting out movies and/or tv series before we could even realistically think of doing it.

Otherwise, even if we ignore budget concerns, you'd have to introduce so many characters the movie's pacing would be horrible. Both sides had small armies.

But say Hank makes the powers just for Jan to use? He can be like, the Q to her Bond. C'mon, imagination! Flexibility! It's not like they haven't changed a lot of things already.

Totally agree about Civil War. I...kinda want Civil War without the actual, y'know, civil war. No stupid superheroes dividing up and fighting each other for nonsensical reasons while acting like they're off their meds and think they've been possessed by the ghost of Joe McCarthy. The underlying concepts that led to the SHRA, on the other hand, would be absolutely fascinating. I mean, the whole idea of the government wanting to control the Avengers and Fury's disagreements with the council are already set up. And Tony's putting together The Tower Formerly Known As Stark Tower, which could serve to make the Avengers draw away from SHIELD control...I really like the possibilities this movie opened up.

I support this idea. I really want Jan in the next movie, but I don't like Hank, so this basically solves that problem.

The Registration Act would be really interesting. I have a feeling they're not going to do full-scale Civil War, but they might do a much smaller version -- probably with a lot of emotional and relationship drama between the major players (especially Steve and Tony) but stopping well short of the mega-plot that was Civil War in the comics. They'd definitely have to get the rights to X-Men and Spiderman back before they did it, though, or work with Fox and/or Sony to use them.

I love Hank in the Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon, so I would actually love to see him if they keep him that way. I think he and Jan would do really well. Just as long as they don't go with the Ultimates version. *shudder*

Scarlet Witch would be amazing. They'd, again, need at least some of the X-Men rights back though -- as of now they can only use her if they never call her a mutant or mention Magneto, which erases a huge part of her and Quicksilver's plot. Hopefully they can strong-arm Fox into helping them out, lol. I think her powers would be easier to explain than some... especially if they keep that she's a mutant, but even without that -- her original powers were basically just negative probability manipulation. The "chaos magic" came later and doesn't even need to be explained, really... I can't think how they could though, lol. Magic in Marvel is pretty screwy.

But I don't think either would duplicate other characters' skill sets (except maybe Jan to Hank, but that's because they're a package deal). Thankfully. Cos I really, really wanna see Wanda and Pietro on the big screen. :3

[identity profile] intrigueing.livejournal.com 2012-05-18 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Fuck it, you just reminded me that I have to check out that Avengers cartoon! I've been meaning to do that for literally months now and it keeps slipping my mind. Thanks!

Now that I think of it, Hank and Jan being a package deal won't be too bad since they're not that powerful. They're the type that would actually work as a package deal. And they're very well known, and I can think of good ways they can be ushered into the plot quickly (like Hank working on this big project developing new particles and testing them on himself and Jan, and something plot-relevant happens to derail the work and get them recruited, or whatever. I like imagining future scenarios).

[identity profile] curseangel.livejournal.com 2012-05-18 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! The cartoon is AMAZING! :D It's so cute and I love it, the characters are done pretty fabulously! Hank is the cutest EVER in the cartoon, srsly -- he has like, one or two douche moments but otherwise he's just this super-idealistic scientist who just wants PEACE! and also has serious trouble spitting it out that he's in love with Jan. SO CUTE. Also Jan is AMAZING and really integral to the plot. And basically just, that cartoon is so much love. (Also HULK. omg. That cartoon single-handedly made me like Bruce Banner and the Hulk even when I hated the movie.)

Yeah, I agree. They work really well as a team.. and there are definitely huge plot options for them. (Especially when you think of, like, the Supervillain prison, Ultron, etc., also.)

[identity profile] 21lights.livejournal.com 2012-05-18 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
lso much much later on, after they inevitably (as they foreshadowed!) do Civil War

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, NO!!! Please don't do it! Please!!!! The forshadowing of that was the one moment in the movie that I hated. (Admittedly, I don't know that whole story very well but from what I do know about it, I DO NOT want to see it).

But, yes to Wasp. I'd love to see her in the next one.

[identity profile] curseangel.livejournal.com 2012-05-18 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
I want to see a variation on it... if only because the heart-wrenching, emotional parts are so exactly what I love (I'm kind of an angst-fan, lol). But if they try to do the whole thing.. it'd be a mess.

[identity profile] 21lights.livejournal.com 2012-05-18 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
I guess a variation on it might be interesting, but I would hope they'd wait a few movies before trying it. These people just came together, I don't want to see them pulled apart so soon. And, as I said, I don't know the whole story so I don't know where which character stands on the issue, just that Tony and Steve were on opposite sides. Where does the rest of the established movie!team fall?

[identity profile] curseangel.livejournal.com 2012-05-18 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, I definitely agree it'd have to be a long ways in the future. I think really my favorite aspect would be the Superhuman Registration Act, and seeing where everyone goes with that.. I don't even really want to see Tony and Steve on opposite sides of it -- and I really don't want to see Steve die, so. xD;

[identity profile] 21lights.livejournal.com 2012-05-18 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
I really don't want to see Steve die, so. xD

My biggest concern, really. I doubt they'd do it, but still. I don't want to see that particular part of the story play out on screen.

[identity profile] intrigueing.livejournal.com 2012-05-18 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
tbh everyone's reasons for supporting the registration act seemed completely moronic because the act was so crappily written (from what I can tell at least -- one of the things that really pissed me off is that the writers never actually spelled out an official details of what the fuck everyone had their panties in such a twist over), and that's even with decades of continuity. So I find the idea of forcing a movie team to divide up in a movie series with, what, three movies? Four at the very most? When the first movie only spans, like, two days? to be kinda ridiculous.

Also wasn't Tony all "this is my private shit back the fuck off" at the Senate hearings in Iron Man 2? (haven't watched it in a while admittedly so maybe I'm misremembering).
