And Jane can stay at the super-secret-research-facility.

Not an avengers fan, but I admit I was pretty annoyed with all the movie-verse X-Men fans who suddenly claimed they LOVED X-Men and were huge fans and blah blah blah when they didn't know a damn thing about any of the characters. Fandom has evolved since then and now people are pretty good about clarifying movie-verse vs comics-verse, which calms the irrational rage reaction. I've got no problem if you admit you're a movie-verse fan, what bugs me is when people claim to be a (for example) Wolverine mega fan and in lurrrrve with him yet know absolutely nothing but what happened in the movies.

That's kind of an impossible thing to answer. Some will think yes and others argue against it. One because the comics have such a huge history of different writers and varying story lines, and two because of personal interpretations of text.

The movie personalities are based on their comic counterparts, but I wouldn't say they're identical.

Thor, Captain America and Iron Man are most like their comic counterparts out of everyone. Loki, Hawkeye and Hulk are pretty different (but brilliant!). Black Widow and Fury are about 50/50. Honestly though, the comics have about million different takes on the characters, so I wouldn't worry about whether the movie versions of them are "authentic".

I love my glasses. My mother says nobody looks good with glasses, but I think my appearance is vastly improved with them.

Also, I have a phobia of things being near my eyes. You should've seen me freaking out and jumping all over the place when I got my eye exam for new glasses a few weeks ago. So I don't want contacts, ever. I'll take my ugly glasses and love them, thank you!

Anyway, OP, you'll look rad in your glasses, I'm sure!

I wasn't going to comment on this secret because I'm not in the fandom, but BEST COMMENT.

[identity profile] pinkealing.livejournal.com 2012-05-19 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd take a "schlubby" guy over some buff GQ guy anyday. But I get the same type of thing from my mom and sister, they're drooling over Sparta like actors and I'm drooling over Edward Furlong and Seth Rogen.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-19 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed.

I mean, both are fans, but you've got to admit that someone who has been collecting and reading comics for years and knows all the stories and backgrounds and intricate plots from over the years - that is a superfan. Someone who loves the movie and thought it was awesome and now loves the Avengers - that's a fan. Nothing wrong with either, but there is a difference.

OMG, I was wondering if I was the only one who thought that!

Yeah. I wanted Jane and Darcy to have roles in The Avengers, but it wasn't feasible given Natalie Portman's pregnancy (and it seems unlikely that they would include Darcy without Jane, more's the pity).

[identity profile] deadtree.livejournal.com 2012-05-19 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
No way. Darcy had charm and personality, and the added benefit of not being portrayed by Natalie Portman. What's not to like?

Question concerning Marvel stuff like Avengers, is it fairly contained?

Because that's what put me off DC. I decided to read through Impulse, and I'd be reading along, and then "To be Continued in Flash #whatever!" and then next issue was "Continuing from Flash #Whatever" starting mid-fight against someone I've never heard of, and then they get to the bad guy and... "Continued in Legion of Superheroes #blarg!" Oh look, next Impulse the bad guy has been defeated and will never be explained. And I don't WANT to track down back issues of a dozen different series in order to be able to read one storyline! I mean, I wouldn't start reading GRRM "And then Arya picked up her sword..." Please see Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time Book 3 page 67. "

Bianca's new look is adorable.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-19 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
But the 90s also had Joe Madureira, which I know a lot of people dislike but is one of my absolute favorite artists. I also think while yeah, the 90s had some atrocious artwork they did have some amazing stories.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-19 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
bah. just remembered Joe Mad didn't work on Avengers. Ignore me please. ^_^;

(Anonymous) 2012-05-19 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
but...we haven't even had that many lately?

[identity profile] milkcracker.livejournal.com 2012-05-19 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, ain't that a kick in the head?

My sibling dragged me off to see the first Twilight Movie. Having been very much occupied with RL at that time, I went along thinking "Oh, great, a cool vampire movie will get me out of my slump." I knew nothing about the books and had no idea what the movie was going to be about other than vampires.

The first part of the movie was the typical set up portion, a bit slow but understandable for what was first of a series. Then they went to the scene in the meadow...and I was delighted. I started giggling madly, thinking what a great pieces of crack my sister had taken me to see.

That's when I noticed all the scowls and the frowns of the young girls around me. I elbowed my sib and said, "Um... is this supposed to be serious?"

Apparently it was.... Who knew? (PS - I managed to internalize my snickering for the rest of the movie so I didn't get mugged in the parking lot.)

I was just about to say. You can have sexy sleep paralysis? Shit, sign me up. I'm feeling a bit cheated with the "have no mouth but I must scream" variety.

[identity profile] daisukeaurora.livejournal.com 2012-05-19 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Unrelated, but I just want to say your icon is awesome. :)

[identity profile] cypherwulf.livejournal.com 2012-05-19 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I hated her at first, but when she left the show, I realized I missed her and hoped she would return. She had some really great moments and episodes.

[identity profile] pinkealing.livejournal.com 2012-05-19 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm kind of just sick of hearing about Twilight in general I guess.

[identity profile] kelincihutan.livejournal.com 2012-05-19 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
This. I took a look at these guys after joining Pottermore out of curiosity and decided in about four seconds to give them a wide berth. Honestly, expending that much effort to just get a foot in the door over an internet club is ridiculous.

[identity profile] omorka.livejournal.com 2012-05-19 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It has been my experience that this happens far more often with younger women (college-age and younger) than older ones. It's possible that it's a generational thing. It's also possible that they'll just grow out of it. Either way, you might want to look for a more mature group to hang out with (although it's not universally true of younger women or universally untrue of older ones, so as in all things, YMMV).
