...is that chick reading a Full Metal Panic doujinshi? o_O

(Anonymous) 2012-05-22 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm rather horrified I could ID that series and yet have no idea what anime this is.

Lucky Star and Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu were directed by the same guy, so I guess that's why that's there

[identity profile] al28894.livejournal.com 2012-05-22 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It's Lucky Star, once one of the top slice-of-life anime in the late 2000s. It's mostly humorous with a few jabs at fandom, yet mostly remembered today because of it's characters.

Sousuke/Gauron!

My icon is appropriately horrified.

[identity profile] loracarol.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
This is actually what I came here to ask, lol. |D

Sorry I couldn't be helpful OP... ;_;

[identity profile] al28894.livejournal.com 2012-05-22 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry, but the only thing that strikes out about this secret is that you used a Lucky Star screenshot of Kagami reading a Full Metal Panic doujin!

Seriously though, you could talk to her that she needs to lay off the yaoi and talk about other things. Maybe you two can talk about other anime/manga fandoms and find some new fandoms altogether. A little fandom diversity doesn't hurt.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-22 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe you should get off your ass and tell her how uncomfortable you are, maybe even educate her.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
op

who says I haven't? she knows yaoi is a unrealistic fantasy, I told her this over and over and have told her how and why. Lots of people know romance novels are unrealistic fantasy but like them as unrealistic fantasies and don't need to be 'educated'. then obsess with them because thats what they like. I feel bad because she has no one irl to discuss it with at all I just wish it weren't me

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt

Personally I'd go more the "I really don't need to hear about your porn habits please stop" route.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Just tell her? It's like me with this girl who loves anime and she thinks every Japanese person out there knows or cares about anime because I'm literally the only Japanese person she knows. I'm sure she's just curious.
ext_81845: penelope, my art/character (fabulous)

[identity profile] childings.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
I can see how that would get annoying really fast. I get self-conscious about that sort of thing and I think that's why I tend to shy away from talking about gay fandom things with gay people I know IRL who are in fandom, unless they bring it up first or something. For some reason it's easier with people over the internet, I guess because I usually have no idea what gender or sexuality fandom friends are at first until they bring it up or I bother to look at their profile or whatever

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
just be a good cousin and lend an ear. though you might want to tell her that you being gay has nothing to do with yaoi and that you're not interested in it, because she might legit be confused about that.

[identity profile] ooh-mrdarcy.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I feel your pain.

She'll grow out if it - she won't stop being a yaoi fan, but she will gradually stop talking about it less and less as she grows older, because wisdom comes with age. As a last resort, you can tell her you will stop talking to her if she can't talk about anything else but yaoi. She's probably sexually frustrated if she's unable to switch subjects even when asked to, in which case, you could try buying her a sex toy as a birthday present or something.

Yep, this sounds about right.

[identity profile] insanenoodlyguy.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Uhhh... what? I think we have to know how close these friends are before we start buying them sex toys. Not to mention the ages involved.

[identity profile] ooh-mrdarcy.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
I was kidding; I'm not seriously expecting OP to buy the girl a sex toy.

Sex toys can be expensive.

[identity profile] insanenoodlyguy.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
There's that too. For all we know, she needs something with lights, whistles, and three motors just to get rain in the desert. We don't know OP's budget here.

It seems like it pretty much sucks for both of you to be in this conservative environment. I hope you can get out of there to greener pastures. I can see how your cousin might be annoying, but don't hold it against her too much - she's likely just exploring her own likes/dislikes (sexually) with this and she's just over-enthusiastic. Just tell her honestly that you'd like to talk about other things, too.

[identity profile] pinkealing.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, most yaoi fans I've know (myself included) are SUPER into it when they first discover it. Give her some time and it'll hopefully become less of a focal point for your conversations.

[identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
She has lots of people on-line she can talk to. She doesn't need to gab your ear off about anything. Just tell her that your kinda burnt out on the subject and would like to talk about something else. Then change the subject. Eventually she'll get it.

So tell her, calmly and nicely, that you want to talk about other stuff with her too. Say you're not interested. Encourage her to make some fandom friends.

If it would help, talk about other stuff with her that she's interested, and let her talk about yaoi some of the time as well. But no, you don't have to talk yaoi with her just because you're gay.
