You should watch the Jeremy Brett version, it's amazing.

Sherlock is also very good, and it's only 6 90-minute long epsiodes, so you can catch up quick before S3 starts.

The Jeremy Brett version is the best IMHO. Most accurate to novels, most thorough adaptation, best Sherlock (YEP I SAID IT COME AT ME BEYOTCHES)- it's a little weak on the action scenes but whatever, it was made in the 80's and Brett had health problems. I read the series before watching any adaptations and the Granada/Brett Sherlock just seems to be the closest to the originals vOv

I think that I consider Brett's Holmes and Cumberbatch's Sherlock are different enough (not just becasue of the time they live in, though that's part of it), so I feel fine liking them both without really trying to compare them. Maybe that's just me trying to have my cake and eat it too, but... oh, well.
