supernatural?

and if you're involved in a mod capacity (which it sounds like) then if anything you wouldn't be as biased around conflicts as somebody else might be, which i'd prefer if i were a member.

at least that's what i'm getting out of this, lol. like the show how you like it!

My guess was Supernatural as well, but then I realized that OP did not include a fourth, fandom-defining category: batshit crazy mishawives.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-03 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
If they're seeing a lot of holier-than-thou people who quit the show years ago, maybe they're not running in the same circles as the mishawives.

OP here

(Anonymous) 2012-06-03 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
See, I think that's what makes me a good mod (not being superior or anything, just truthfully). I like to think my non-obsessiveness lets me step back and give things the weight they deserve rather than what people think they deserve.

Re: OP here

(Anonymous) 2012-06-03 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
I think you're right OP. I lurked in a fandom years ago where all the mods were firmly on one side of the split and really went after those who disagreed with them, even to the extent of denying posts for violating the unspecified forum rules while allowing friends in their camp to get away with the exact same violations. It was really annoying to watch and I just left the fandom. Your lack of emotion brings you clarify which is often (sadly) lacking in fandoms. And TBH, you may be able to be the calm voice which keeps things from exploding which may keep a lot of lurkers around too that would otherwise throw their hands up and leave.

I think this is a pretty good instance of the 90/9/1 rule. 90% passively consume, 9% are active but not super involved-- think lurkers and occasional posters, 1% are involved. As a leader of that 1% you may influence things and not completely scare off the remaining 9% who might be driven back to that 90% or just the fandom leave entirely from the drama.

Long story short? Good luck!

Honestly that sounds like every fandom I've ever been in.....The problem is that the loudest fans make up the three groups, making it seem like there are less dedicated causal fans than there really are.

[personal profile] threeonetwo 2012-06-02 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it bad that it only took me halfway through the secret to tell it was Supernatural?

And it's ok, OP. I'm not in any of those groups either. Though, I also stay away from any comms aside from fic-reccing ones...

If it's SPN, I just like the show. It's a fun show. I have problems with it, but I'm not angry about anything enough to stop watching and I don't get emotional over characters. So I'm sure there's a fourth group that's just less vocal, and that you mistake for really invested fans when they try to other fans to see reason...

Please, every fandom needs more casual fans to comment. You'll probably find more casual fans will respond if they think they're not alone.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-02 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I guess most fandoms are like that.
Of course less vocal people are less likely to leave a bazillion posts or make an impression than drama queens.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-02 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
My guess is Supernatural...and I see I'm not the only one who thinks so. XD I'm part of the fandom myself, and I'm afraid I'm probably of the over invested variety. XD Don't feel bad for being a casual viewer! There's nothing wrong with that. Probably better than being way too obsessed with it like I am. ;P

[personal profile] rtydmartel 2012-06-02 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, right?!

OP, you're actually in the perfect position to -figuratively speaking- beat some order into your fandom!

When the leaders are as whacko or drama-inducing as the rest of the fandom, the whole thing becomes a mess, but if you are level-headed and invested enough to stay but not invested enough to take it all too personally, then you can instill peace and order into the fandom.

Go. Go! Don't be the mod your fandom deserves; be the mod that your fandom needs!

BATMOD!

OP

(Anonymous) 2012-06-03 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Reading all the comments has made me feel a lot better about it! Fandom's still pretty crazycakes, but I like being largely neutral. I like all the characters pretty equally, and I'm generally positive but not crazy. I always thought my mid-levelness would be a good thing, but I always feel awkward when I make posts and there's dozens of people over-reacting. :/

Glee?

[personal profile] velvet_mace 2012-06-02 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Those first two catagories sound miserable and it looks like they are making the third miserable. I wish people who get fed up with a fandom and a show would just let go and move on. I get an occasional gripe, but if the griping is accounting for 2/3rds of fan activity then it's just way past too much.

OP

(Anonymous) 2012-06-03 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Everybody who had moderate feelings about the show has left long ago, and that's what's made it feel so divisively split, I guess. I miss the days when the show was everywhere and almost everyone was a casual fan, because the crazy portions were a smaller proportion of the fandom as a whole.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-03 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
You're in the Supernatural fandom, aren't you? I'm pretty positive you are.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-03 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I was thinking SPN as well.

*reads comments* guess not. But at least I'm not the only person who thought that xD;;

(Anonymous) 2012-06-03 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
lol my first thought was Glee as well.
