Is it a crossover if they're from the same universe?

I mean, they're both from Marvel.

I'd say it is, as the movies aren't in the same universe what with Spiderman being owned by a different company.

As in, there won't be throw-away lines in either movies about the other, Spiderman won't join the Avengers in canon until Sony(?) loses its rights to the franchise, etc. Personally, I'd consided movie!X-men/movie!Avengers a crossover as well.

The Marvel movies that tie into the Avengers can't include Spider-Man in its universe, since he's owned by Sony. The Avengers and Spidey share a universe in the comics, but not the movies, unless Sony for some reason gives up the rights to the character.

(Of course it's still possible to headcanon that the two share a universe anyway -- they just can't reference it onscreen).

nobody woudl judge one too harshly for making crossover fic, no.

But I fear the movie only people will do it... in bad ways.

I don't want to see loki redemption fic via love of spiderman.

I keep seeing art for this crossover all over Tumblr. I wouldn't be surprised if the fic becomes popular.

Well if you look at the 'superfamily' tag on tumblr people have made a start with crossovers, lol

I'm seeing a bit of the "superfamily" pop up on AO3 also, and it crops up a lot under the superhusbands tag too. So it's already rolling lol

I hope so, too. I love the fics that already exist, with Steve, Tony or an older member of the Avengers becoming a mentor for Peter, and it'd be awesome to have more. :D

There is a fair amount of this about already? Comic fandom considers them the same (linked) canon anyway, and obvs Spidey is in Civil War which from where I'm standing seems to be the comic most movie fans are most likely to read, whether for the angst or the slashyness or both.

And then coming in the other direction from movie fandom, it's definitely around; at the moment on tumblr there is a lot of funny Tony-and-Steve-are-Peter's-embarrassing-gay-dads which, um, may or may not be your cup of tea, IDK.

I would give a lot to see Tobey come back and play Spider-man in an Avengers sequel. I know, I know...never gonna happen :'(
