The only problem with that is some of the stories that have been pulled aren't actually breaking any rules mentioned in the TOS. Some people have had their stories pulled because the summary mentioned death, which last I knew wasn't a bad word. And meanwhile, all of the letter fics that my fandom is infested with seem to be staying up.

So whatever's going on isn't enforcing the TOS. It's censorship where someone has decided to get rid of all stories that contain things they don't like.

And at the moment, M-rated stories are not against the rule, and yet people are still cheering the fact that ff.net is getting rid of all M-rated stories.

(And for the record, I don't like reading stories with explicit sex in them, and even non-explicit stuff I tend to skim through because it doesn't interest me. But that doesn't mean I feel it shouldn't be available for the people who do like reading it.)

I don't think you're supposed to have explicit sex anywhere, though. M is more like the R rating of FF.net and most people have had a "post at your own risk" attitude about posting actual porn for a while.

If it was just explicit stuff getting taken down, then I would understand that, since it is against the rules. However, not everyone who has had a taking down had explicit sex in it. And at least one person is being told they did, when they say they never did more than hint at anything.

Yeah, I'm not arguing that the mods of the site are fair and logical, just that getting rid of M-rated stories for being more like NC-17 would be consistent with policies.

That's why I object to this. Not because things that break the rules are being removed, but because there are elements to these removals that just seem too much like censorship.
Although, if they want to remove all of the letter-fics that have infested my fandom while they're applying their censorship, I would be cheering them on for that.

Yeah, that is amazingly creepy. TMI, but I when I started writing fic (over 10 years ago now) one of the main things motivating me was bereavement trauma. The idea of arbitrarily deleting the entire topic is just boggling, and really unhealthy.
