Question: is there a specific term for shipping two characters of the opposite sex where one (or both, for that matter) isn't straight?

I referred to my best friend's bi guy/straight (I think, I'm not in the fandom) girl pairing as het and she got all bent out of shape and insisted it's slash. According to her it doesn't count as het because they're not both heterosexual.

I know she's wrong, but is there some other term I'm unaware of to describe bi guy/straight girl (or straight guy/lesbian, or gay guy/bi girl, or straight girl/gay guy, or whatever other combination you could come up with)?

It's just het.
You can have a gay guy and a lesbian have sex, and it's still considered het. Or if you have two straight guys, it's slash, and so on.
Imo it doesn't matter what sexuality the people involved represent in this case.

Ok, thanks, that's what I thought. I knew she was wrong saying bi guy/straight woman = slash, but I wasn't sure if there was some other term for it besides just het.

That just sounds like het to me. I was always under the impression that the name was defined by the nature of the relationship rather than the sexual orientations of the participants.

That's what I was thinking, same sex = slash and opposite sex = het, regardless of what their sexual orientations are. I'll have to tell her she's just wrong!
