Came here to say this. Give it a try and see if you like it! :-) And maybe look into styling schools in your area; they usually do perms and stuff a fair bit cheaper than regular salons.

Yeah, trust me, I know about perms. I used to get them all the time, but I stopped because they were just annoying (what with the burning my scalp and being way too freakin expensive xc) and it took longer than me just plain ol' washing my hair. :/ So really, all I want is naturally straight hair. orz

:-/ Yeah, I guess you're stuck then. :( Hmm. Would getting a decent-quality wig for special occasions be an acceptable substitute? Not, like, for all the time (they're hot and itchy, aside from anything else), but for the price of the perm you can probably find a pretty decent-quality, really long wig, and at least give it a go and see what it's like. Use hairpins, though, or I can pretty much guarantee it will get yanked from your head at some point, if your experiences with long hair are anything like mine, ha ha. Hell, at Hallowe'en (or your local costume/club wear shop) you can just get a cheap long wig and try it around the house and see if the experience might be worth spending some decent dollars on with a decent one.
