I'm genuinely curious; how was it awful? Because I have the exact opposite where KH1 and 2 were fine but his entire half in Re:CoM sucked balls (although I think everyone's just dropped the ball in that half--Sora's half was fine).

If it's just the typical newb to voice acting thing, then that makes sense to me, but I like hearing opinions.

I guess it's a matter of opinion, but Riku's voice acting in the first game just didn't seem to have very much acting. A lot of the time, at least for me, it just felt like Gallagher was just reading the lines off the script instead of actually acting them. A lot of scenes that should have been really emotional seemed a little "meh" to me because Riku sounded like he didn't give a shit about what was going on. I'm not saying it was all bad; there were a couple scenes where I really liked his voice acting, but most of the time it was just okay.

When I refer to his voice acting in in Re:CoM, I'm talking about Repliku too. I haven't played it in a while, so you might be right about Reverse/Rebirth, but I remember really liking the voice acting (at least Riku's, let's not get into Marluxia) when I played through it.

Oh yeah, Repliku's was great, and even though it's been a while, I do remember Gallagher giving more range. Whether he actually managed it is another thing (I honestly don't remember because... I ended up hating the remake after I had played through it), but as a whole I think he's gotten better--which is good, considering it's been a decade.

I actually don't disagree with you about how he probably just read lines off versus giving an actual inflection, but I had admittedly thought of the overall acting and prefer a lot of it to KHII's, if only because the terrible was a little less obvious. Since KHII there's been a lot more hit and miss--Disney chracters included--and Re:CoM was one of those for me, for sure. For some reason Reverse's characters sounded a lot more phoned in, which is strange considering that some of them were veteran voice actors. KH1's sound mixing is also higher quality, in my opinion, but then that's getting into weird crap that most people don't tend to notice (like: oh hey, they actually dubbed in a sound effect for Maleficent's cape moving across the floor!).

I had to Youtube Marluxia's scenes again since I barely remember how he sounded, and now I wish I hadn't. I don't remember being this annoyed since... well, most of BBS' dub. It makes me glad I import now, even if we've gotten past the FFX days.
