I'd love to be a terrible person and say 'wait for him to finish reading it, THEN tell him what it's based on' but instead of that, why not just ask him or casually bring up the book and see how he feels about it and what he's getting out of it? You could have a serious discussion about the issues the book has, as well, that might be more productive than just LOL OMG TWILIGHT FANFIC
