extremely tl;dr thoughts on art by mysteryperson

I'm not a fan of Metalallaladdlsdkdlslocalypse or of oversized megacock, but I do like her artwork - she's got a pretty solid grasp on anatomy and chooses to exaggerate it over that framework. (As opposed to me - I just draw overlong torsos cuz i r dum) I also live the way she draws carpal tendons.

But as for criticism - it's something every artist has to learn to take if they're going to improve. "HURR U SUCK LOL" doesn't help anything, and neither does nastiness, but something like "this is a good start, but the hipbones are positioned wrong" or "the forearm is too short compared to the upper arm" is good. Hell, it's downright NECESSARY.

Criticism always stings, maybe a little, maybe a lot, but it's like a vaccination - you take that material and make yourself better.

If an artist flies off the handle at receiving a comment like "the nose is solid, but the rest of the facial structure seems weak", then, well... god forbid they ever actually go to a decent art class.

*love the way

And yeah, I'm afraid to give concrit on y!gallery too, just cause it seems to be a drama landmine. But if you really feel it's needed, go for it!

Mm yes, I agree with you. :)

I shouldn't be too afraid to give concrit, the artist seems like a nice enough person and could probably handle concrit.

(And I'm amused by your keyboard smushing in "Metalallaladdlsdkdlslocalypse" I hate how hard it is to spell that thing. XD)

"chooses to exaggerate it over that framework."

So they're technically grotesques, in that way. Sorry if I'm one of the...quietly becoming vocal fans who were sick of it becoming the *standard* for what was considered good art in the fandom.

But I left the fandom because it was watered down with crap and this; the unending praise for a woman who drew men with treasure trails like they got squirrels in their pants. Fuck, a mod in one of the larger communities once told me that quantity equalled quality, which is just so untrue it's painful.
