The big deal about them seems to stem from the huge Kakuzu/Hidan fanbase, despite the fact that it's outright stated that the two of them hate each other's guts and therefore are the least likely people to be shagging and squeeing over each other. No, I don't get either.

Aside from that, Hidan's pretty and there are some great fanfics with him and Temari, of all people. They really didn't get enough development in the manga for me to really be interested in them and as people already mentioned, waaay too much Shika and not enough Ino and Chouji during that particular arc. Asuma was their sensei too, damnit.
