Question for all you F!S dudes: Have you ever loved a fanfic, despite it being the type of fic you usually hate?

Asking because I generally dislike anything that has a lot of explicit sex, but I recently found a smutfic which I really enjoyed because it was so funny and well written and in-character, and the whole time I was reading it I kept thinking "Haha, yeah, that is totally what would happen." It'd be nice to know something like this has happened to someone other than me.

I usually can't stand fic in general, but every now and again I'll stumble onto one I enjoy. Does that count?
I guess sometimes if most of the fic hits you in just the right way you can overlook the things that would usually bother you.

Same here. I don't read much fic, I'm more of a visually-oriented person so I'm more into fanart and fancomics, but every once in awhile if I'm in a fandom I really like (or a smallish fandom) I'll read fic for it. Also sometimes I get in the mood to search for fanfic for the most random things to see if it exists (like the movie The Faculty or something)

I think good fic is good fic, even if I might not be so fond of the genre. That being said, I don't generally like (graphic) femmeslash, but there have been stories in the past I liked that had it.

I usually really hate modern day fics for the "Phantom of the Opera" fandom (mainly because it seems they're usually handled pretty poorly, i.e. really stereotypical crappy romance novel cliches, or wildly OOC, or the whole the-Phantom-is-an-emo-teenage-boy-in-a-mask high school fic thing), but there's one author whose modern day AU fics I absolutely adore. Largely because she does keep them in character, and honestly is an amazing writer, and because she tends to have such original plots.

So, yeah, me too! :D

Yes! Today, in fact. I hate person-turned-into-cat shipping fics because they usually are cutesy and ridiculous and weird, but this one was, well, all those things. BUT, I liked and it made me smile and I can't figure what the thing was that endeared me to it. Also, I read this epic mpreg fluff fic a while ago and it was stupid and terrible and I should have hated it, but, again, it made me smile and I can't figure out why I liked it so much.
