Just a taste of what conservative fangirls have to go through all the time. Differing political views are just a part of life. Eventually you learn to separate the good from the politics.

Hahaha. Yeah, everyone else is going all mopey and sad, and I'm thinking "O RLY? I may have to look into this show..." :D

Hi, by the way. *waves*

I've considered it before; it does sound like a fun show. I just know it doesn't have the resolution it was originally intended to have, and I hate not knowing how things should have been, lol.

Haaay! Fancy seeing you here! :)

Re: Conservative shows. Have you checked out NCIS? They have a pretty Republican/Conservative POV in the show. Not sure about the creators, but I know the actual characters and plots are pretty right wing. And the characters are really fun and awesome. Might be something you'd enjoy!

Oh, I love NCIS. :) I don't know if I'd call it "conservative" so much, though. I thought it was mostly neutral, myself. There are definitely moments/episodes where I've gone, "These are right-ish talking points here and there." But there are moments/episodes where I've thought, "And now they're pulling from lefty talking points."

Which is actually my preferred mode, if something isn't going to avoid politics altogether. I think it's a shame when you get shut up in an echo chamber (That being my second reason for being in fandom. You'll wake up quick on a Monday as a conservative fangirl. :p ), so when you can get a mix, even if it's the somewhat-less-than-always-thoughtful treatment in NCIS, I really like that.

Pretty much, yeah.
And besides, if I only watched media made by people whose social views agreed with my own, not only would there not be a lot to choose from, but how would I be exposed to new ideas or different concepts? How would I learn about how people very different from me think and feel?
Things to think about. /shrug

Yep. It's hard to be picky when there's no reason to be that way anyways.

The problem is that a lot of the outspoken conservatives are also homophobic sexist racist assholes. In other words, extremists of the party which give everyone a bad name. :( I know of very few mild mannered normal conservatives (in fandom/hollywood. I know quite a few irl.).

(Anonymous) 2012-06-06 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Not the person you replied to, but a lot of conservatives have equally bad opinions of the far-left in Hollywood. I admit a lot of conservatives have been stereotyped as all of the above(and may very well be what they're called, but I've noticed that people assume conservative = homophobic sexist racist assholes even if they know nothing about the person's views other than they claim to be conservative[which isn't calling you out since you may be referring to an individual who IS like that, but from what I've seen, it's often generalizations]), but there are just as many liberals with equally as bad views(at least to conservatives).

Also, typically the only people who are willing to admit to being conservatives are the ones with strong beliefs, because it makes them stand out. Those with less controversial/batshit insane ones aren't likely to be flouting it everywhere and bringing it into every discussion because they don't want to be like their liberal and far-right counterparts.

But I really don't want to turn this into a politics debate. Extremists do tend to give everyone a bad name, and Hollywood is full of both kinds.

Aww poor babies that want to oppress other people with your politics having to deal with people that are LIBERAL. Fuck you. Come talk to me when a liberal show runner is advocating taking away your bodily right or calling you a godless abomination.

Grow up. Conservative stereotypes =/= all conservatives. I wasn't complaining about liberals in Hollywood, merely stating that conservatives have to live with a large majority of writers, creators, and actors who have strong beliefs that they disagree with.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-06 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
How horrible for them. Liberals have to do the same thing anytime they want to find out what's going on in the world.

Aww poor babies that want to oppress other people with your politics having to deal with people that are CONSERVATIVE. Fuck you. Come talk to me when a conservative show runner is advocating taking away your bodily right (to eat what you want, smoke, own a gun) or calling you a fundamentalist nutjob.

see what I did there? there's no difference between each side, they both want to take away one right or another.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-06 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
This. Though with the added bonus sometimes where you're not allowed to share your political beliefs ever anywhere, or you'll be ostracized from any fandom/community you're in.

It can make a girl who is neither conservative nor liberal resent politics, because no matter what, if she ever interjects her opinion on a matter, friends will be lost.

For real? Them's some shitty friends. I have friends of all walks of life on my flist and I still talk about my political views. That's no reason to ditch someone, unless they're being abjectly hateful about it. One of the most-commented posts on my LJ was a debate over the merits of gun ownership, and I don't think two people held exactly the same view. Many of my online friends are libertarian, and I'm a socialist - if we can get along, I don't see why liberals and conservatives can't.
