Look up 'impostor syndrome', OP.

Especially as it sounds like you want to 'be' the person you are online (HINT: YOU ALREADY ARE THAT PERSON. IT IS YOU. WHO ELSE WOULD IT BE?) it just sounds like you're suffering from anxiety and low self-esteem. You're seeing your shadow in bitchy rant posts because you're worried about what kind of person you are.

It might take more growing time and self-care and maybe a few big life changes, but you ARE the person your online friends know and when you meet them IRL at last they are going to love you just as soon as you chill out and start talking to them.

Exactly.

Your online "persona" is you, minus the usual inhibitions of real life.

You can use the insight of how you behave online to improve your real life. It's not easy to make that sort of introspection, but you'll come out better if you try it and soldier on.

I'm not the OP, but thank you for this. I don't know how long I'll be able to believe this post but I thank you for the happiness I will gain from however long I can believe it.

(just haven't a foggy clue bout how to deal with my stark terror of initial interaction, or the snarky-bitch wall i deliberately put up irl to prevent said interaction)

I don't know how to make it happen on purpose, but I've noticed that with time I've been able to, pardon my language, give less of a fuck about what others think, little by little.

It really, really, really helps to have someone to support you, a friend, a family member, an online friend? I don't know. Just one little thing to help you and stabilize you can make a huge difference.

When people say this, they don't mean it's actually another person. They mean that they feel that they seem like a different kind of person than the kind of person that they actually are. You probably know this, but I just want to emphasize it. I've felt very similar to how they OP said they have.
