Re: Here is one
There are also more subtle cases all throughout that community. If a man says anything about women's issues, it's all "Sit down and shut-up, you evil penis-haver!" instead of reasonable discussion.
Re: Here is one
(Anonymous) 2012-06-09 02:16 am (UTC)(link)It's because men shouldn't be the dominant voices in women's issues and shouldn't be allowed to speak over women about sexism and their experiences as women.
You're a moron.
Re: Here is one
(Anonymous) 2012-06-09 02:18 am (UTC)(link)And apparently you're a judgmental asshole. (Yeah, hypocrisy is me. I just couldn't resist.)
Re: Here is one
You are part of the problem.
(Also, isn't "moron" one of those oh-so-evil ableist words that SJW-types get all up in arms about people using?)
Re: Here is one
(Anonymous) 2012-06-09 02:29 am (UTC)(link)You really (http://birdofparadox.wordpress.com/derailing-for-dummies-google-cache-reconstruction/#notlistening) really (http://birdofparadox.wordpress.com/derailing-for-dummies-google-cache-reconstruction/#angry) love derailing, don't you? (http://birdofparadox.wordpress.com/derailing-for-dummies-google-cache-reconstruction/#hostile)
Re: Here is one
But seriously, though. If you end a post with a straight-up insult, you don't want a debate. You don't want to educate someone. You don't want to approach problems in a rational, adult manner. No, when you insult a stranger out of hand for saying something you don't agree with, what you want is a fight. Which makes you the problem, much more than the person whose opinion you disagree with.
And since I don't particularly want a fight right now, I'll let you have the last word so you can feel like you've somehow won a great victory for women's rights. Have fun!

(Anonymous) 2012-06-09 06:18 am (UTC)(link)you didn't really imply women have learning disabilities as an innate part of being a woman
right
wait no you're anon you're probably shit-stirring because this secret's spawned sjw wank and you want to join in
Re: Here is one
Re: Here is one
(Anonymous) 2012-06-09 07:49 am (UTC)(link)that's why i was wtfing at the comment i replied to
Re: Here is one
(Anonymous) 2012-06-09 10:23 am (UTC)(link)"Say, did you know using the word "moron" as a term of abuse is hateful and oppressive of people, including women, with learning disabilities?"
As in, disabled people's issues ARE women's issues too, which is something a lot of mainstream feminist circles tend to forget.
Re: Here is one
(Anonymous) 2012-06-09 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)it's still a wtfy way of writing it if they did mean it like how you said it
Re: Here is one
Re: Here is one
(Anonymous) 2012-06-09 02:50 am (UTC)(link)Except that's not derailing. You are literally doing EXACTLY what the people up thread are complaining about.
Abelist terminology is not appropriate.
Re: Here is one
(Anonymous) 2012-06-09 03:38 am (UTC)(link)Re: Here is one
If it is, then that part of your comment is constructive.
What, then, is the benefit of adding the last line? Ask yourself, what does it do for the cause and the greater good to belittle someone? What do I hope it will accomplish? What do I expect the person on the other side of the computer to do when I call them a moron? Do I expect them to change their minds? Insult me back? Change their behavior? What do I want them to do, not just now, but after this?
Is it because I feel that the person is being hurtful? If I feel that, then why do I want to mimic such hurtfulness? Am I not trying to show people that it's not acceptable to be hurtful?
This comment, by the way, isn't meant to say "you're a bad person". It's because (like most of the people in the thread) you believe in the right cause, but you might not realize what an impact delivery has.
